La Liga Odds, Picks & Predictions for Matchday 8 (2022)

As teams returned last week after a holiday throughout Europe, seven of the 38 weeks of the 2022–23 La Liga season are now officially in the books. Let’s look more closely at a couple of the matches this weekend in Spain’s top professional league as the calendar turns to October and things start heading up.

Saturday

Getafe vs. Real Madrid

Real Madrid played Osasuna to a 1-1 draw as they resumed play last week, becoming the last team in La Liga to have a spotless record.  Real Madrid has been on an incredible run to start this season, winning six straight matches while accruing a goal differential of +11, as they are still without a loss. Currently, in a deadlock with archrival Barcelona at the top of the table with 19 points each, it appears that it will be a two-team race once more this season.

Getafe presently ranks #14 on the table with a record of 2-1-4, indicating that things have definitely gotten better for them since this time last year. The last time we saw them play, was a 2-3 home loss to Valladolid, a game they controlled much of but failed to convert chances late. Getafe now enters this match with a goal difference of -7, and this week’s challenges won’t get any simpler as Real Madrid visits.

I predict Real Madrid to seize control of this game early and win by two goals or more, led by Vinicius Junior, the #3 scorer in La Liga.

Pick: Real Madrid 1H (-130)

Monday

Elche vs. Mallorca

Few things in all of wagering appeal to me more than gambling against La Liga team Elche. They were a terrible team last season, narrowly avoiding relegation, and they’ve carried over that form into this campaign with a current record of 1-6-3. Due to their shocking 18 goals conceded in seven games, they have the lowest goal difference in the league (-15).

Regarding Mallorca, a respectable start to the season has been overshadowed by the fact that they have dropped their last three games. However, a closer examination reveals that those two defeats came at the hands of La Liga’s two most successful teams, Real Madrid and Barcelona. The last time we watched them play, they really battled with Barcelona for a good portion of the game before losing 1-0 as the game came to a close.

Top-scoring striker Veda Muriqi and midfielder Lee-Kang should handle business in this one and return to winning ways with relative ease.

Pick: Mallorca +150
