La Liga Sports Betting Picks of the Week: 7/9 – 7/10

With much of the sporting world here in the United States scheduled to emerge from their pandemic shadows later this month, the world of international football has been humming right along for weeks now. While it hasn’t gone without positive tests from players and staff alike, they have figured out a system that has worked and stuck to it.

In La Liga, most teams have just three games remaining as postseason slots (and relegations) are still to be decided. With just under two weeks left of regular season play, let’s take a closer look at two meaningful matches this week that I have my eye on in La Liga.

Athletic Bilbao (+220) vs. Sevilla (+145)

Thursday, 4 PM EST

A quick glance at the table shows Sevilla in desperate need of a win in this one to remain in the fourth and final spot La Liga has for next month’s Champions League. The COVID-caused restart has been kind to Sevilla, as the club is yet to lose in their seven games since. They have amassed a record of 3-4-0 in their storm up the table.

For Athletic Bilbao, a UEFA Qualifier spot is in reach, but last week’s 0-1 loss to Real Madrid did them no favors. Getting the unfortunate draw of Real Madrid and Barcelona in the restart, Bilbao lost both by the slimmest of margins (-2 goal differential) in what are their only two defeats.

In what I expect to be a very tight game between two teams in desperate need of a point, I’m playing the under in this one.

Pick: UNDER 2.5 (-198)

Real Madrid (-480) vs. Alaves (+1200)

Friday, 4:00 PM EST

Looking at this match on paper may provide very little interest between two teams trending in opposite directions, both this season and historically. Sitting at the top of the table, Real Madrid has yet to lose (or draw) in any of their seven matches since the restart in early June.

For Alaves, the restart has been decidedly less kind, as they have now lost six of seven matches since the league restarted. Outside of their July first match against Granada, however, three of their last four have been decided by just one goal, and their defeats have not been from a lack of effort.

In need of points to maintain the top La Liga seed in Champions League, I fully expect Real to keep their foot on the pedal over their final three games. In this one, look for them to take advantage of a weaker opponent, and look to the Alternate Spread 3-Way (No Push) for the best value in capitalizing on it.

Pick: Real Madrid -1 (-150)
