Masters 2022: Best Make or Miss Cuts Odds & Bets

We are now just hours away from a tradition unlike any other, as 90+ of the world’s best golfers will tee it up for the most coveted trophy in golf. While Tiger Woods will get much of the attention whether he plays or not, the middle of the pack is where we’ll be focused today as we look towards the cut line to see who will and won’t be around for the weekend.

On average, the cut tends to come in around +3 and +4, which is where we can expect it to land again this year as things normalize in a post-COVID-19 environment. Let’s take a closer look at a couple of golfers who could find themselves on the right and wrong side of the cut.

Make Cut

Tiger Woods (-115 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
While he’s still a “game-time decision,” this bet would be canceled should he not tee it up. And if he does tee it up, he’ll only be doing so knowing he can compete.

Though Woods has been on a 14-month layoff from a car accident that almost cost him his life, long layoffs to return to Augusta are not unprecedented for him. Following layoffs in 2019 and 2014, Woods returned for the Master to finish T4 (2010) and T17 (2015), and it wouldn’t shock anyone if he does tee it up on Thursday. Despite being one significant barrier away from this even being in play, I think we see this number shrink if (or when) Woods says he’s going.

Miss Cut

Patrick Reed (+135 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
Reed has had a tough go of things to start 2022, missing the cut in three of his last four cut-line events as he stumbles into Augusta this week. In 2020, Reed left his long-time coach Kevin Kirk for David Leadbetter. He returned to train with Kirk this past summer as his confidence had been shaken in the time since.

Coming into this week, Reed ranks 201st on tour in SG: Off-the-Tee and 197th in SG: Approach, as he has turned into a player struggling to make the cut each week. His distance off the tee has also been down, ranking 194th on Tour, averaging just 285.3 yards per drive.

A winner here in 2018 and with two top 10s in the past two years, I think we see Reed overvalued here as he has turned into a completely different player as of late.
