Masters 2022: Dustin Johnson Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

It might not feel like spring in some parts of the country, but the azaleas are in full bloom at Augusta National, home of The Masters, the most iconic tournament in golf.

In just a few days, we’ll get to see Amen Corner, Rae’s Creek, the Sarazen Bridge, and Augusta’s other famous features while watching golf’s biggest stars navigate challenging approach shots and treacherous greens. As if the golf isn’t entertaining enough, The Masters presents us with a betting menu the size of a Cheesecake Factory menu.

Welcome to the first annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We’re going to drill down on the myriad wagering opportunities this tournament presents to us. We’ll take a closer look at the golfers with the best chances of earning a coveted Green Jacket. We’ll examine which bets look like sucker plays and which bets provide better value than a $1.50 pimento cheese sandwich at an Augusta concessions tent.

Should you back a top player like Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, or Collin Morikawa? Is it better to play a hot hand with someone like Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Smith, or Sam Burns? Or would it be best to ride with an Augusta specialist like Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, or Justin Rose?

We have some thoughts. Read on, friends.

Dustin Johnson Course History

Played in November due to the pandemic, the 2020 Masters will go down in history, maybe not with an asterisk but at least italicized. With no fans on hand, DJ was truly dominant, shooting a final-round -4 to finish the week a clear five strokes ahead of Sung-Jae Im and Cameron Smith.

But that wasn’t Johnson’s first taste of the top 10 at Augusta. In fact, prior to 2021, DJ had finished top 10 in five straight appearances and top 25 in six of the previous seven. In 2019 and 2020, DJ finished all eight of his eight rounds at Augusta at 70 or below.

Dustin Johnson Recent Form

It’s been a relatively light year for the two-time major winner, who, following a strong finish to 2021, started slow out of the gates this season. Following a T45 at the CJ Cup and T25 at the Farmers, DJ missed the cut at the Genesis after an opening-round 73.

The Players Championship looked to be producing another poor fate before a final-day 63 gave DJ a T9 finish. And things appeared to have clicked from there.

Following a T39 at the Valspar with a T4 last week at the WGC-Dell Match Play event, DJ is looking to get some of the 2020 magic back.

Dustin Johnson Masters Predictions

For a guy who, when healthy, hasn’t finished outside of the top 10 at the Masters since 2014, 16-1 is incredible value. While his play to start the season has scared some away, two top 10s at the most stacked fields of the season (the Players and WGC-Dell Match Play) shouldn’t be overlooked.

Looking back to last summer, DJ finished top 10 in four of his final six events of the season, missing the cut in the other two. If he can get out to a decent start on Thursday (anything below par), I think we see one of the best Augusta players of the last decade round right back into major form by Saturday morning.
