Masters 2022: Jordan Spieth Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

It might not feel like spring in some parts of the country, but the azaleas are in full bloom at Augusta National, home of The Masters, the most iconic tournament in golf.

In just a few days, we’ll see Amen Corner, Rae’s Creek, the Sarazen Bridge, and Augusta’s other famous features while watching golf’s biggest stars navigate challenging approach shots and treacherous greens. As if the golf isn’t entertaining enough, The Masters presents us with a betting menu the size of a Cheesecake Factory menu.

Welcome to the first annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We will drill down on the myriad wagering opportunities this tournament presents to us. We’ll look at the golfers with the best chances of earning a coveted Green Jacket. We’ll examine which bets look like sucker plays and which bets provide better value than a $1.50 pimento cheese sandwich at an Augusta concessions tent.

Should you back a top player like Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, or Collin Morikawa? Is it better to play a hot hand with Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Smith, or Sam Burns? Or would it be best to ride with an Augusta specialist like Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, or Justin Rose?

We have some thoughts. Read on, friends.

Jordan Spieth Course History

Despite rarely being in regular contention in majors since 2015, Spieth has shown remarkable consistency at Augusta. Over his past six starts, Spieth has made the cut in all six events while finishing T3 or better in three of them.

Following a win in the Valero Texas Open last year, Spieth went to Augusta and posted an opening-round 71 and second round 68 before finishing T3 (-7) on the week. While he was playing much better overall coming into the week in past editions, Spieth’s history here at Augusta can’t be overlooked.

Jordan Spieth’s Recent Form

It has been consecutive T35 finishes for Spieth, who wrapped up the Valero Texas Open on Sunday in embarrassing fashion before making the overnight trip to Augusta for the week. Self-proclaimed as “the worst I’ve ever putted in a professional event,” Spieth’s three-putt from inside three feet on Friday became the stuff of internet gold.

The week prior, Spieth was unable to get out of the group play portion of the WGC-Dell match play event and missed the cut the week prior at The Players following a second-round 79 (+7). With just one top 20 to speak of this season (T2, Pebble Beach), Spieth is struggling to find consistency anywhere in his game, especially with his putter.

Coming into this week, Spieth ranks #141 on Tour in SG: Putting (-.131), with an overall putting average of 1.623 (146th).

Jordan Spieth Masters Predictions

The Pick: Jordan Spieth (Bet Against in Matchups)
While Spieth has shown an ability to light up the board here in the past, this is a different player than we have seen in years past. In addition to a putter that has completely gone cold for week-long stretches at a time, Spieth’s driver has been equally unreliable.

Coming into this week, Spieth is 128th on Tour in Driving Accuracy (57.82%), with his left rough tendency amongst the worst on Tour as well at 14.24%. Depending on how the matchups fall, I’ll likely be looking to fade Spieth as soon as they are revealed.
