Masters 2022: Patrick Cantlay Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

It might not feel like spring in some parts of the country, but the azaleas are in full bloom at Augusta National, home of The Masters, the most iconic tournament in golf.

In just a few days, we’ll see Amen Corner, Rae’s Creek, the Sarazen Bridge, and Augusta’s other famous features while watching golf’s biggest stars navigate challenging approach shots and treacherous greens. As if the golf isn’t entertaining enough, The Masters presents us with a betting menu the size of a Cheesecake Factory menu.

Welcome to the first annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We will drill down on the myriad wagering opportunities this tournament presents to us. We’ll look at the golfers with the best chances of earning a coveted Green Jacket. We’ll examine which bets look like sucker plays and which bets provide better value than a $1.50 pimento cheese sandwich at an Augusta concessions tent.

Should you back a top player like Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, or Collin Morikawa? Is it better to play a hot hand with Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Smith, or Sam Burns? Or would it be best to ride with an Augusta specialist like Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, or Justin Rose?

We have some thoughts. Read on, friends.

Patrick Cantlay Course History

In what will be his sixth appearance at the Masters, Augusta has produced a mixed bag of results for Cantlay. In his 16 rounds here, Cantlay has produced an average adjusted stroke gained of +.85.

Missing the cut last year, Cantlay has a T17 and T9 dating back to his missed cut in 2018. He also, however, has one of the lowest scores posted here in recent memory, shooting a Saturday 64 in the 2019 edition, finishing T9 (-10) on the week.

Patrick Cantlay Recent Form

With four of his six professional wins coming last season, Cantlay earned himself PGA Tour Player of the Year in 2021, as voted on by the Tour’s membership. 2021-22 has started with more of the same success.

In his seven events played, Cantlay has made the cut in six of them on the way to racking up for top 10s. His best result has been a 2nd place finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, just a week removed from a T4 at Pebble Beach.

Patrick Cantlay Masters Predictions

The Pick: Patrick Cantlay Top 10 (+225 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
One of the most well-rounded players on Tour for the past 18 months, Cantlay enters this season already dialed in and in search of his first major. Despite his success last season, however, Cantlay missed the cut here at the Masters, which I would be shocked to see again this season.

Heading into this week, Cantlay ranks inside the top 20 in SG: Off-The-Tee (.500), SG: Putting (.535), SG: Around-the-Green (.455), and SG: Total (1.314). With major success the last thing on the list for an increasingly elite player such as Cantlay, I expect a renewed focus this week at Augusta and for him to find himself in contention come Sunday afternoon.
