Masters 2022: Scottie Scheffler Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

It might not feel like spring in some parts of the country, but the azaleas are in full bloom at Augusta National, home of The Masters, the most iconic tournament in golf.

In just a few days, we’ll see Amen Corner, Rae’s Creek, the Sarazen Bridge, and Augusta’s other famous features while watching golf’s biggest stars navigate challenging approach shots and treacherous greens. As if the golf isn’t entertaining enough, The Masters presents us with a betting menu the size of a Cheesecake Factory menu.

Welcome to the first annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We will drill down on the myriad wagering opportunities this tournament presents to us. We’ll look at the golfers with the best chances of earning a coveted Green Jacket. We’ll examine which bets look like sucker plays and which bets provide better value than a $1.50 pimento cheese sandwich at an Augusta concessions tent.

Should you back a top player like Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, or Collin Morikawa? Is it better to play a hot hand with Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Smith, or Sam Burns? Or would it be best to ride with an Augusta specialist like Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, or Justin Rose?

We have some thoughts. Read on, friends.

Scottie Scheffler Course History

Despite being only 25, Scheffler already has an impressive track record here at Augusta National. Making his debut in 2020, Scheffler finished T19 that year while shooting a second-round 68 and being in striking distance of the lead come the weekend, finishing -6.

Last year, with fans back at Augusta, Scheffler performed similarly, finishing T18 on the week while overcoming an opening-round 73 to finish -1.

Scottie Scheffler Recent Form

After beating Kevin Kisner in the WGC-Dell Match Play final last week, Scheffler completed a staggering third win in his previous five starts to cement his place as the No. 1 player in the world. Add a T7 over that span at the star-studded Genesis Invitational, and Scheffler enters Masters week as one of the hottest players in recent memory.

And that’s just as of late. On the 2021-22 season, Scheffler already has six top 10s in 13 events, making the cut in all but one (Shriners).

While he does nothing “the best” on Tour, his metrics have been remarkably exceptional where it matters most. He’s top 20 in strokes gained: putting (.588), strokes gained: total (1.532), birdie average (4.90), and greens in regulation percentage (71.56%). Scheffler has been dialed in with each facet of his game since the start of the new year.

Scottie Scheffler Masters Prediction

The Pick: Scottie Scheffler Round 2 to H2H (+1600 via PointsBet)
Make no mistake about it: Scottie Scheffler is a fantastic talent who has a long future of contending in majors if he remains healthy. But there are great players, and then there are major hunters.

And this is Augusta.

When the bluebloods (Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, etc.) of the Tour tee it up each season, they almost exclusively focus on the majors. That is why, despite a combined zero wins this season between the aforementioned players, they are all still ahead of Scheffler in terms of odds this week.

I think we see a slow start from Scheffler, but I’ll be looking in his direction in Round 2 matchups as he settles in.
