Masters 2023: Cameron Smith Betting Preview, Odds, Picks & Predictions

It’s Masters week, the unofficial start of golf season — at least for those of us in the northern parts of the country.

The Masters is the first major of the golf season and arguably the best. Augusta National is a special place — a visually stunning course that tests the mettle of the best players in the world. Augusta requires precision approach shots and a deft touch on pitches and chips. Its lightning-fast greens can make even the best putters in the world look like amateurs.

Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, won his first major at Augusta last year and is among the betting favorites this week, along with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.

As if the world’s greatest golfers taking on arguably the world’s greatest course wasn’t enough, we get some extra spice with some of the prodigal sons of the LIV Tour joining their former colleagues in this week’s field. Players in the Saudi-backed LIV Tour have been banned from playing in PGA Tour events, but they are welcome at Augusta, which means we’ll see former Masters champs Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson.

Cameron Smith Course History

Cameron Smith has a game that closely resembles that of three-time Masters champ, Phil Mickelson. No wonder he has finished in the top-10 here three times in five appearances. The mulleted Aussie is the most lethal in the world from inside of 100 yards and has every shot required at Augusta. His controversial departure to the LIV Tour should not temper the expectation that Smith will one day don a green jacket.

Cameron Smith Recent Form

Despite the lack of points given out for the Official World Golf Ranking from LIV events, Smith has held strong in the top-5. His win at the Australian PGA Championship in November and top-5 at the LIV Mayakoba in February demonstrate that he is in strong form, despite the reduced number of competitive rounds compared to his peers on the PGA Tour.

Cameron Smith Betting Outlook

Cameron Smith is my second-favorite to win the Masters, behind Scheffler. At 20-1 odds, he is garnering only fringe respect from oddsmakers and bettors. This is a distinct edge, especially since Smith has been loudly knocking on the door at Augusta for a few years now.
