Masters 2023: Jason Day Betting Preview, Odds, Picks & Predictions

It’s Masters week, the unofficial start of golf season — at least for those of us in the northern parts of the country.

The Masters is the first major of the golf season and arguably the best. Augusta National is a special place — a visually stunning course that tests the mettle of the best players in the world. Augusta requires precision approach shots and a deft touch on pitches and chips. Its lightning-fast greens can make even the best putters in the world look like amateurs.

Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, won his first major at Augusta last year and is among the betting favorites this week, along with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.

As if the world’s greatest golfers taking on arguably the world’s greatest course wasn’t enough, we get some extra spice with some of the prodigal sons of the LIV Tour joining their former colleagues in this week’s field. Players in the Saudi-backed LIV Tour have been banned from playing in PGA Tour events, but they are welcome at Augusta, which means we’ll see former Masters champs Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson, and Phil Mickelson.

Welcome to the second annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We’re going to drill down on the many wagering opportunities this tournament presents. We’ll take a closer look at the golfers with the best chances of earning the coveted Green Jacket. We’ll examine which bets look like sucker plays and which bets provide better value than a $1.50 pimento cheese sandwich at an Augusta concessions tent.

Jason Day Stats to Know

  • Best odds to win: +2900 at FanDuel Sportsbook
  • World ranking: 33
  • Best Masters finish: T2 (2011)
  • Last four Masters finishes: T20, T5, MC, MC
  • Last four tournament finishes: 5, T9, T10, T19

Jason Day Course History

The Australian-born Jason Day will return to the Masters for the first time since 2021 when he missed the cut for the second consecutive year. However, his course history is a true rollercoaster ride, dating back to when he posted a T2 finish in his inaugural outing at Augusta National in 2011. Including his debut 12 years ago, Day has three top-five performances here and an additional top-10 to his name. Furthermore, he has two other top-20 finishes sprinkled in in 2014 and 2018. While the 35-year-old knows the course well, he seems to have lost a step over his previous two trips to the event.

Jason Day Recent Form

Day has been playing very recently, seeing his name continue to climb up the World Rankings, where he’s now the 33rd-best player on the planet. By the time the event kicks off on Thursday, it’ll have been roughly a month since the 35-year-old teed it up in a professional atmosphere. That was when he collected his sixth straight top-20 finish at THE PLAYERS (-6) in March, coming in at T19. The Queensland native’s best finish dating back to September is a fifth-place outing at the WM Phoenix Open (-12) in February. He followed that up with a T9 at the Genesis Invitational (-9) the subsequent weekend. His three other top-10 outings were T8 at the Shriners Children’s Open (-18) in October, T7 at the Farmers Insurance Open (-8) in January, and T10 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational (-5) last month.

Jason Day Betting Outlook

With the 2022-2023 campaign that Jason Day is putting together, I think he can buck his recent woes at Augusta and post another top-10 finish. This is paying +210 at DraftKings Sportsbook right now. The Tour veteran is well-rested after a run of six straight top-20s and he’s playing some of the best golf of his decorated career. It’s worth noting that out of the 11 times that Day has teed it up at Augusta National, he’s finished inside of the top 10 in four of those tournaments. I like the plus-money payout that comes with Day to accomplish this for the fifth time in his career.

Pick: Jason Day Top-10 Finish (+210 at DraftKings)
