Masters 2023: Jon Rahm Betting Preview, Odds, Picks & Predictions

It’s Masters week, the unofficial start of golf season — at least for those of us in the northern parts of the country.

The Masters is the first major of the golf season and arguably the best. Augusta National is a special place — a visually stunning course that tests the mettle of the best players in the world. Augusta requires precision approach shots and a deft touch on pitches and chips. Its lightning-fast greens can make even the best putters in the world look like amateurs.

Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, won his first major at Augusta last year and is among the betting favorites this week, along with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.

As if the world’s greatest golfers taking on arguably the world’s greatest course wasn’t enough, we get some extra spice with some of the prodigal sons of the LIV Tour joining their former colleagues in this week’s field. Players in the Saudi-backed LIV Tour have been banned from playing in PGA Tour events, but they are welcome at Augusta, which means we’ll see former Masters champs Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson.

Welcome to the second annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We’re going to drill down on the many wagering opportunities this tournament presents. We’ll take a closer look at the golfers with the best chances of earning the coveted Green Jacket. We’ll examine which bets look like sucker plays and which bets provide better value than a $1.50 pimento cheese sandwich at an Augusta concessions tent.

Jon Rahm Course History

A consistent threat at Augusta, Rahm has made the cut all six times he’s played here while finishing inside the top 27 all six times and inside the top 10 four times. Putting on the Green Jacket is pretty much the only thing that has evaded Rahm in his historic career thus far — something that may not evade him for much longer. Arguably the world’s most talented golfer, Rahm continues to knock on the door at Augusta, and this could be the year that he finally knocks it down.

Jon Rahm Recent Form

The main concern with Rahm this week is his recent form, which sounds like a crazy thing to say considering that he won the Genesis Invitational in mid-February. However, relative to how he started the year, Rahm is on a downswing. Through the first six tournaments of the season, he posted three wins while finishing top eight in all six events. Since then, Rahm finished T39 at the Arnold Palmer, withdrew from The Players Championship after the first round, and was a quick exit in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play event.

Jon Rahm Betting Outlook

One of the betting favorites at Augusta, Rahm is part of the “big three” that consists of Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and himself. Despite the drop in performance over his last three events, there is no doubt in my mind that Rahm is the most talented golfer in the world. If not for his recent downswing and Scheffler’s recent upswing, Rahm would likely be the odds-on favorite to win. With Rahm hovering around the 17/2 mark, I will be betting him to win this tournament outright and finally put on the Green Jacket.

Pick: Jon Rahm Outright Winner (+850 at DraftKings)
