Masters 2023: Patrick Cantlay Betting Preview, Odds, Picks & Predictions

It’s Masters week, the unofficial start of golf season — at least for those of us in the northern parts of the country.

The Masters is the first major of the golf season and arguably the best. Augusta National is a special place — a visually stunning course that tests the mettle of the best players in the world. Augusta requires precision approach shots and a deft touch on pitches and chips. Its lightning-fast greens can make even the best putters in the world look like amateurs.

Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, won his first major at Augusta last year and is among the betting favorites this week, along with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.

As if the world’s greatest golfers taking on arguably the world’s greatest course wasn’t enough, we get some extra spice with some of the prodigal sons of the LIV Tour joining their former colleagues in this week’s field. Players in the Saudi-backed LIV Tour have been banned from playing in PGA Tour events, but they are welcome at Augusta, which means we’ll see former Masters champs Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson.

Welcome to the second annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We’re going to drill down on the many wagering opportunities this tournament presents. We’ll take a closer look at the golfers with the best chances of earning the coveted Green Jacket. We’ll examine which bets look like sucker plays and which bets provide better value than a $1.50 pimento cheese sandwich at an Augusta concessions tent.

Patrick Cantlay Course History

Patrick Cantlay’s intro to Augusta National came in 2012, where he finished as the Low Amateur. His performance while on the PGA Tour has been up & down since his impressive finish as an Amateur. In 2018, Cantlay missed the cut before posting his best career Masters finish in 2019 (T9). He followed that up with a solid T17 finish in 2020 but has since found himself outside the Top 35 in his last 2 Augusta trips including a Missed Cut in 2021.

Patrick Cantlay Recent Form

Cantlay is still seeking his first win of the 2022-23 season despite some strong results over the past few months. He made his season debut at the Shriners Children’s Open in October and posted a T2 finish. After a missed cut in the WM Phoenix Open in February, Cantlay bounced back with consecutive Top 5 finishes at The Genesis Invitational (3rd) and the Arnold Palmer Invitational (T4). He followed that up with another solid finish at THE PLAYERS (T19). His most recent outing was at the WGC – Dell Technologies Match Play. Cantlay started out strong in Group Play and advanced to the Round of 16 before drawing a tough matchup and narrowly losing to the eventual champion, Sam Burns. His T9 finish continued his recent strong play. He’s been very accurate off the tee (2nd in Strokes Gained: Off-the-Tee; 8th in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green) and is 1st on Tour in Par 4 and 5 scoring. Cantlay has been playing well recently in tournaments with strong fields, which could indicate he’s picking up some steam heading into Augusta.

Patrick Cantlay Betting Outlook

Cantlay is a very strong dark horse to win for a player of his caliber. Cantlay seems to be in great rhythm with his swing. Pairing that with his recent strong finishes and extensive experience at Augusta National makes Cantlay an excellent outright, T5, and T10 option this week.

Pick: Patrick Cantlay Outright Winner | Top 5 Finish (+360) | Top 10 Finish (+175 at DraftKings)
