Masters 2023: Patrick Reed Betting Preview, Odds, Picks & Predictions

It’s Masters week, the unofficial start of golf season — at least for those of us in the northern parts of the country.

The Masters is the first major of the golf season and arguably the best. Augusta National is a special place — a visually stunning course that tests the mettle of the best players in the world. Augusta requires precision approach shots and a deft touch on pitches and chips. Its lightning-fast greens can make even the best putters in the world look like amateurs.

Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, won his first major at Augusta last year and is among the betting favorites this week, along with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.

As if the world’s greatest golfers taking on arguably the world’s greatest course wasn’t enough, we get some extra spice with some of the prodigal sons of the LIV Tour joining their former colleagues in this week’s field. Players in the Saudi-backed LIV Tour have been banned from playing in PGA Tour events, but they are welcome at Augusta, which means we’ll see former Masters champs Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson.

Welcome to the second annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We’re going to drill down on the many wagering opportunities this tournament presents. We’ll take a closer look at the golfers with the best chances of earning the coveted Green Jacket. We’ll examine which bets look like sucker plays and which bets provide better value than a $1.50 pimento cheese sandwich at an Augusta concessions tent.

Patrick Reed Course History

2018 Masters Champion Patrick Reed has been appropriately cast as a villain by most of the golf community. He has overcome Ryder Cup heroics and triumph at Augusta National to jilt everyone into a fuming hatred of him. His prowess at shotmaking courses like Augusta National should not be ignored. He is a stellar iron player with an immaculate short game and a flare for clutch play under pressure. His personal reputation could not be worse but does nothing to mitigate how successful he has been in the Masters.

Patrick Reed Recent Form

There has been very little spoken about Reed outside of his famous cheating scandals and Christmas Eve lawsuit service, but he did show out at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January. His runner-up finish to Rory McIlroy could have very easily been a victory until a final Sunday charge by his archnemesis sealed his fate. The LIV Tour has yet to live up to the competitive standards set by the PGA Tour, so there will always be questions about whether those golfers will be adequately prepared for the pressure cooker of major golf.

Patrick Reed Betting Outlook

As difficult as it would be to stomach, Reed is a really sneaky good bet this week. He can certainly win the Masters for the second time. At 90-1 odds, he is one of the more undervalued outright bets on the board. I can’t say I’ll be rooting for him in any capacity, but there’s strong reasoning behind laying some bankroll behind one of the most appropriately assigned heels in the history of sports.

Best Bet: Outright Winner (+9000 at FanDuel)
