Masters 2023: Xander Schauffele Betting Preview, Odds, Picks & Predictions

It’s Masters week, the unofficial start of golf season — at least for those of us in the northern parts of the country.

The Masters is the first major of the golf season and arguably the best. Augusta National is a special place — a visually stunning course that tests the mettle of the best players in the world. Augusta requires precision approach shots and a deft touch on pitches and chips. Its lightning-fast greens can make even the best putters in the world look like amateurs.

Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, won his first major at Augusta last year and is among the betting favorites this week, along with Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.

As if the world’s greatest golfers taking on arguably the world’s greatest course wasn’t enough, we get some extra spice with some of the prodigal sons of the LIV Tour joining their former colleagues in this week’s field. Players in the Saudi-backed LIV Tour have been banned from playing in PGA Tour events, but they are welcome at Augusta, which means we’ll see former Masters champs Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson, and Phil Mickelson.

Welcome to the second annual BettingPros Guide to The Masters. We’re going to drill down on the many wagering opportunities this tournament presents. We’ll take a closer look at the golfers with the best chances of earning the coveted Green Jacket. We’ll examine which bets look like sucker plays and which bets provide better value than a $1.50 pimento cheese sandwich at an Augusta concessions tent.

Xander Schauffele Course History

The 29-year-old Xander Schauffele will be making his sixth trip to Augusta in his young career. So far, he’s fared very well aside from the 2022 rendition, where he missed the cut for the first time in his career. The only finish that wasn’t listed above was a T50 outing back in 2018. So, at this point, Schauffele knows the course well and is very accustomed to playing the Masters. With this recent form, he may be a dark horse candidate to make a run at his first victory of the calendar year.

Xander Schauffele Recent Form

Schauffele has taken a slight step back in terms of events played this season. I’d say that he earned the right to take it easy after winning three tournaments outright last campaign and posting an additional four top-five finishes. Aside from withdrawing at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in early January, the American-born golfer has made every cut over nine tournaments played since October. He’s posted two top-five finishes in the span, earning fourth at the Hero World Challenge (-11) in December and T3 the following month at the American Express (-25).

Xander Schauffele Betting Outlook

The rising pro knows Augusta National like the back of his hand at this point and I won’t be shocked if he collects a top-10 finish at the Masters this weekend. That is currently paying +210 at DraftKings Sportsbook. With the way guys like Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, and even Rory McIlroy are playing right now, I don’t feel confident that Schauffele can hang around with them this weekend. Those three are in an echelon of their own right now. However, Schauffele has the course history and he’s playing well enough to keep it within several strokes of the champion. Let’s lock him in for a top-10 finish at Augusta.

Pick: Xander Schauffele Top-10 Finish (+210 at FanDuel)
