Mayakoba Golf Classic Betting Guide (PGA)

After a brief pause in the action, the PGA Tour returns for the last calendar event of the 2020 season. This will be the final individual event on the schedule for a full month, as players will get a much-needed break over the holidays. Playa del Carmen will play host to the Mayakoba Golf Classic beginning Thursday. A field of 132 golfers will be teeing it up for the $7,200,000 purse.

The field is led by betting favourite Justin Thomas, who is currently number three on the official world golf ranking. Brooks Koepka, Tony Finau, Daniel, Berger, and Harris English round out the top-five highest priced golfers on DraftKings. Defending champion, Brendon Todd will make his trip in an effort to repeat his 2019 success. Masters winner Dustin Johnson, unfortunately, announced his withdrawal from the event.

Best Bets to Win

Harris English  (+1700)
English is a prior winner here (2013) and has had recent success at the event with a T5 last year. It’s been a phenomenal stretch of golf for the 31-year-old. He has 10 top-20 performances in his last 15 outings. Some of these high finishes include a second-place finish at the Northern Trust, a fourth at the U.S. Open, and a 1oth at the CJ Cup. English ranks third in strokes gained: total, over the last 36 rounds.

Abraham Ancer (+1900)
The Mexican will be playing in his home country at an event he has performed very well at. Ancer has three straight top-25s here, including at T8 (2020) and a T9 (2018). His recent form has been excellent. Ancer finished T13 at the Masters, even after closing the week with a 76.

Long-shots

Carlos Ortiz (+5100)
Another player teeing it up in his home country this week, Ortiz is coming off his first breakthrough win at the Houston Open a few weeks ago. He finished second at this event last year, so he clearly enjoys the track and is more than comfortable in front of his friends and family. In the past 24 rounds, Ortiz ranks 19th in strokes gained: tee-to-green, and eighth in strokes gained: around-the-green.

Pat Perez (+10100)
Other than Russell Knox, Perez has the best course history at this event. In his last four times teeing it up here, Perez has finishes of T8, T6, T34, and first. He is an excellent putter on Paspalum greens and should feel very comfortable once again at a course he loves and has plenty of good memories on.
