Miami Ohio RedHawks vs. Cincinnati Bearcats Odds & Game Pick (2021)

Cincinnati is hoping for a magical 2021 season.

After holding an impressive 7-1 record last season, many pundits claim that the Bearcats could crash the College Football Playoff this time around. There’s no shortage of hype surrounding Cincinnati, as they are ranked 8th in the AP poll to begin the season.

Their quest to the playoffs will start in a home matchup against in-state opponent Miami Ohio.

The main question surrounding this game comes from the motivation of Cincinnati. The Bearcats have gotten patted on the back throughout the entire offseason, and now it’s time to produce. They have a decided talent advantage over Miami Ohio, but they need to fully realize their potential to cover the spread.

Let’s cover all the betting angles of this Saturday afternoon showdown.

Overview

As mentioned earlier, Cincinnati is ranked eighth in the country. You must have some talent on your team to earn those honors. The Bearcats have it in spades, posting one of the best scoring defenses from 2020 – giving up just 16.4 points per contest. They have a Heisman Trophy hopeful on the offensive side of the ball as well. QB Desmond Ridder accounted for 31 total touchdowns last season while showing off his dual-threat ability. He’ll look to march all over a Miami Ohio defense that gave up nearly 27 points per contest last year.

Mami Ohio shouldn’t be overlooked, as they are a capable opponent from the MAC. The RedHawks return starting QB Brett Gabbert along with top receiving options in Jack Sorenson and Mac Hippenhammer. Having said that, they have a tough task ahead of them while facing one of the best defensive units in the country. Gabbert is trying to show improvement after being named 2019 MAC Freshman of the Year, and this is one of the biggest tests of his career.

Trends

  • The total has gone over in four of the last five Cincinnati games.
  • Cincinnati is 4-1 ATS in their last five home games.
  • Miami Ohio went 2-1 last season on an abbreviated schedule.

Bottom Line

There’s too much talent on the Cincinnati side of the ball. 23 points is a heavy number to consider, but the Bearcats could make it look easy.

The #8 team in the nation will look to make a statement on Saturday afternoon, proving they belong in a conversation among the elite teams. There will be no letdown here, as Cincinnati will run, throw, and defend their way to an easy blowout.

The Pick: Cincinnati -22.5
