Michigan Wolverines vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers Odds & Game Pick (2021)

The #9 Michigan Wolverines hit the road Saturday as they head to Lincoln, NE as 3.5-point favorites to take on a Cornhuskers team still searching for a signature win under head coach Scott Frost. For the Wolverines, Jim Harbaugh seems to have the best team of his Michigan tenure, and as Big Ten play ramps up, we will certainly find out.

Let’s take a closer look at these two Big Ten foes and see where we can spot the edge.

Overview

Right when the expectations were off, as Michigan started the season unranked and largely thought to be a middle of the pack team, they’ve struck. Coming into this one 5-0 with wins over Wisconsin, Washington, and Rutgers, the Wolverines are getting stellar play on both sides of the ball.

At quarterback, Cade McNamara comes into this week with 731 yards through the air and a touchdown to interception ratio of 9:5, and their stable of running backs have accrued over 1,000 yards through just five games. Their defense has been the real story, however, allowing just 4.5 yards per play and 12.8 points per game.

For the Cornhuskers, it’s once again a story of close but no cigar as the team fights hard each and every week yet narrowly avoids victory. In their two most difficult games of the season, on the road at Oklahoma and Michigan State, late mistakes cost them in both as they lost both inside of a touchdown.

Last week vs. Northwestern was their most complete showing, as senior quarterback Adrian Martinez showed flashes of why he was once considered a Heisman hopeful as they dominated all four quarters, winning 56-7.

Trends

  • Over 4-0 in L4 Wolverines games when they were a road favorite
  • Wolverines 1-6 ATS in L7 Big Ten games

Bottom Line

For whatever reason, everything seemed to just click for this Nebraska team at home last week against Northwestern as they put up 427 yards of total offense in a game that was never close as they easily covered as 11-point favorites. Taking that momentum into this one, I think they keep this one close against a Michigan team that will face its toughest road test of the season thus far.

Pick: Nebraska +3.5
