Missouri Tigers at Florida Gators Odds & Game Pick (2020)

After getting off to a 2-1 start which included a road loss in a hotly contested game against Texas A&M, the Gators got an extended break they certainly weren’t asking for. A COVID-19 outbreak, which included their head coach Dan Mullens testing positive, ravaged the team who now hasn’t played since October 10th.

With the LSU game postponed to later in the season, the Gators will now get their shot against the Missouri Tigers, who have had postponement issues of their own.

Let’s take a closer at this SEC matchup and see how the time passed should affect the outcome in this one.

Overview

No one likely wanted a 20-day break from football less than Gators quarterback Kyle Trask who through three games has amassed 996 yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 14:1. His favorite target, tight end Kyle Pitts, has reeled in seven of those scores and is on pace to be a first-round draft pick come April’s draft should his production continue.

The defensive side of the ball is what likely has caused coach Mullen the most nights of restless sleep, however. Through three games, the Gators rank 95th in the nation in yards allowed at 495 and have given up an average of 33.3 points per game.

Coming into the Swamp on Saturday night will be the 2-2 Missouri Tigers, who are being led by first-year head coach Eli Drinkwitz. After taking Appalachian State to a 12-1 record and winning the Sun Belt, the then first-year head coach bolted for a Power 5 program, and was met accordingly.

Through his first four games, the Tigers have faced four ranked opponents in as many games, but are now off back to back wins against LSU and Kentucky as the season turns to November. Leading the Tigers in those victories was redshirt freshman quarterback Connor Bazelak, who has now completed 71% of his passes this season to ammas 893 yards and a 4:1 touchdown to interception ratio.

  • The favorite is 4-1 ATS in these two teams last five meetings
  • The Gators are 5-1 ATS following an ATS loss

Bottom Line

In large part to Pitts and in large part to the speed these Gators pass-catchers possess, Trask comes into this one averaging over nine yards per attempt. While I do think the Gators take some time to get rolling, the advantages they have at the skill positions and on the line should let them impose their will late.

Though there are still some unknowns about the Gators final roster come game day after further COVID testing, it is the SEC; more will play than not.

Pick: Gators -12.5
