Monday's Best MLB Home Run Prop Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Yordan Alvarez (+140)
Year after year, star players take charge when the calendar turns to September. Houston’s Yordan Alvarez wasted no time doing just that when he smashed a pair of dingers against the Royals on Sunday. The three-time All-Star has now tallied five home runs across his current nine-game hitting streak. The Astros leave the confines of Minute Maid Park on Monday, which is notable as Alvarez has tortured teams on the road.
Alvarez leads all batters in on-base percentage (.446), slugging percentage (.711) and OPS (1.157) during away contests. That has to be scary for Reds rookie hurler Julian Aguiar. Aguiar has surrendered a homer in each of his first three MLB starts and now faces Alvarez in a stadium that ranks fourth in offensive park factors since the beginning of the 2022 season. There’s value here regardless of the odds as Alvarez looks poised to launch a moon shot.
Corbin Carroll (+650)
Let’s go from one red-hot pro to another. Arizona’s Corbin Carroll has overcome his slow start to the campaign in a massive way, slashing .275/.352/.662 with 14 home runs and six triples in 39 games played since the All-Star break. Keep in mind his 27 extra-base knocks at home this year are also the most among Diamondbacks hitters. Up next is a showdown with right-hander Jack Flaherty of the Dodgers.
Flaherty has been tagged for at least one homer in 15 of his 23 starts in 2024. Not only that, but he has allowed multiple jacks in three of his five starts with Los Angeles after being acquired at the trade deadline. It’s worth mentioning Carroll has racked up three extra-base hits in 10 previous at-bats against Flaherty. The biggest one was a 417-foot blast off a slider. Expect Carroll to hunt for that pitch again and take advantage.
Teoscar Hernandez (+400)
Staying focused on the matchup at Chase Field and targeting someone in the visiting dugout is the way to go here. That is because Arizona southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez has struggled to be efficient in limited action so far. The 31-year-old has recorded a lackluster 5.06 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in four starts (21.1 innings). What may be even more concerning is he has logged a career-low 17.8% strikeout rate.
Pitching to contact will not work against the Dodgers. After all, Dave Roberts’ squad has gone yard 187 times. That is the highest total in the National League. Outfielder Teoscar Hernandez is 8-for-21 with three home runs against Rodriguez and boasts a .926 OPS against left-handed pitching in 2024. Throwing a sprinkle on him to go deep twice at +4000 odds is enticing, too, as it’s a feat he has accomplished 18 times in his career.
