Sunday’s Best MLB Home Run Props & Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Shohei Ohtani (+200)
We are expecting Shohei Ohtani to bounce back after a few rough games at the dish. Over his last five games, Ohtani is 4-for-21 (.190) with only one extra-base hit and 10 strikeouts.
We know how great Ohtani is, and it’s very unusual for him to go into a long hitting slump. We don’t have any advanced metrics or analytics to spew out; we are just going with our gut and feeling confident as we are taking a shot with one of the best hitters we have ever seen.
Kyle Schwarber (+210)
For our second home run prop, we are heading to the Sunday Night Baseball game between two World Series contenders, the Tigers and Phillies.
Troy Melton is on the mound for the Tigers as he looks to make his third start of the season. His first two starts were polar opposites of each other. In his first start, he gave up six runs on seven hits (including two home runs) over five innings against the Pirates. In his second start, he pitched seven scoreless innings against the Diamondbacks.
It will be interesting to see which version of Melton we get tonight, but with the game being played in Philadelphia, I am expecting the right-hander to get a bit rattled by the rowdy Philly fans. While it is a small sample size, Melton's splits are vastly different. When facing opposing right-handed batters, opponents are batting .190 with a .333 slugging rare. But when facing opposing lefties, opponents are batting .333 with a .500 slugging rate.
There is no better lefty to back in the Phillies lineup than Kyle Schwarber. He leads the Phillies with 23 home runs and a .542 slugging rate against opposing right-handed pitchers.
Giancarlo Stanton (+550)
With Schwarber and Ohtani's odds not the greatest, I wanted to recommend another batter with better odds, and I came across Giancarlo Stanton. He is not the slugger he once was, but he can still smash right-handed pitchers.
Of Stanton’s nine home runs, eight have come against righties. While his home run numbers aren’t through the roof, he does have the second-highest slugging rate on the Yankees, trailing only Aaron Judge.
Stanton is back in a stadium where he once smashed 59 homers in 2017 and seems to be pretty comfortable hitting in his old ballpark, going 2-for-8 with one home run already in this series.
