MLB Home Run Props, Bets & Picks: Tuesday (8/5)

Kyle Schwarber stole the headlines again last night, blasting a couple of home runs and reaching the 40-homer mark for the third time in his career. He trails only Cal Raleigh (42 home runs).

Below, I've identified three hitters who I believe are primed to touch’em all tonight on the MLB diamond. Here are my top home run picks for Tuesday, August 5th.

Christian Walker (+400

Let's pick it up in The 305, where the Astros (63-50) are looking to build on an 8-2 victory over the Marlins (55-56). Houston has yet to name a starter, but it's confirmed that Miami will send Cal Quantrill to the bump. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. ET from loanDepot park in Miami, FL.

Christian Walker got off to a slow start in 2025, but he has rebounded and is hitting his stride as we approach crunch time. The slugger is up to 15 home runs (77th). Across 407 at-bats, that translates to a big fly once every 26.9 at-bats (78th). Walker's hot at the moment, as he has a pair of blasts in his last four games.

Furthermore, I like this matchup for the first baseman, as he's 7-for-15 (.467) against Miami's Quantrill with two home runs and two doubles. The right-hander brings in an underwhelming 4.79 ERA and a middle-of-the-pack 1.20 HR/9 rate. With the way Walker is swinging the bat, combined with his head-to-head edge, I like his chances to go deep tonight.

Corbin Carroll (+300

We have a fun divisional series in The Valley this week, as the Padres (62-51) and Diamondbacks (54-59) square off for a three-game set. Tonight's pitching matchup pits Yu Darvish against Ryne Nelson. First pitch is slated for 9:40 p.m. ET from Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ.

The Diamondbacks' season hasn't gone as planned, but they still have a top-tier hitter at the front of their lineup in Corbin Carroll. The superstar outfielder has 22 longballs this season, which is 20th in the Majors. That's one home run every 17.3 at-bats (21st). Carroll homered once over the weekend against the Athletics, and he's coming off a 2-for-3 night in Monday's 6-2 win over the Friars.

Carroll draws a matchup against Darvish. The veteran hurler hasn't been great with his 6.46 ERA this season. The Diamondbacks hitter is 8-for-15 (.533) against Darvish with a couple of bombs and a pair of doubles. I'll ride with Carroll to deposit one into the outfield bleachers tonight in the desert.

Shohei Ohtani (+150)

The Dodgers (65-48) continue to play well enough to hold their divisional lead over the Padres, and they'll look to keep things rolling tonight when they send Emmet Sheehan to the bump against the Cardinals (57-57). St. Louis counters with Miles Mikolas in this National League clash, which gets underway at 10:10 p.m. ET from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, CA.

I mentioned Cal Raleigh and Kyle Schwarber above. Up next behind those sluggers is Los Angeles' Shohei Ohtani with 38 home runs this season. He's homering once every 11.3 at-bats, which is fifth in the league. Ohtani (.982 OPS) hasn't homered in eight games, but I think this is a great spot for him to get off the schneid.

Ohtani will take on St. Louis' Mikolas (4.83 ERA), who has a 1.50 HR/9 rate this season. Ohtani is 4-for-8 (.500) against the right-hander with a double. The Dodger lineup as a whole is slashing .303/.330/.556 against Mikolas, so the batting order should be rolling over constantly tonight. I'll back Ohtani to jack his 39th home run tonight.
