MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Bet Odds, Picks & Predictions (8/2)
Here are our favorite NRFI plays for Wednesday’s slate.
Wednesday’s Best No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Bets
San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies
Joe Musgrove vs. Kyle Freeland
Believe it or not, Kyle Freeland’s splits are better at home than on the road. Usually, that’s the other way around when your home park is Coors Field.
On the year, Freeland is 1-8 with a 5.33 ERA on the road, 10 of the 17 home runs he has allowed have also come away from Coors Field.
His home splits could be better, but they are still better than his road splits. In 2023, he is 3-3 with a 4.31 ERA at home.
Joe Musgrove gets the start for the Padres. Musgrove has been dominant in 2023, going 10-3 with a 3.05 ERA thus far. Over his last eight starts, he has allowed more than three earned runs and hasn’t allowed a run in the first inning in 13 of his 17 starts.
Taking the NRFI at Coors Field seems risky, but both offenses are pitiful despite the big names in the Padres lineup. At plus money, it looks like a reasonable risk to take.
Bet: NRFI +140
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Washington Nationals
Wade Miley vs. MacKenzie Gore
To put it short and sweet, the Brewers are terrible against left-handed pitchers. Only the Minnesota Twins have scored fewer runs and have a lower batting average against LHP than the Brewers. The Brew Crew also owns the 3rd highest K% against Southpaws.
In 10 home starts, Gore has only allowed a first-inning run in three of them, while only allowing a run in the first inning in 5 of his 23 starts in 2023.
As for the Brewers starter, Wade Miley is 6-2 with a 3.06 ERA. The veteran has made 13 starts this season and allowed a first-inning run just once, which was way back in his second start of the season. So he has gone 11 straight starts without giving up a run in the first inning.
Bet: NRFI -110
