Thursday's Best MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Picks

Colorado Rockies vs. New York Yankees
Starting Pitchers: Ryan Feltner vs. Max Fried
Out East the New York Yankees host the Colorado Rockies as New York tries to lock in the Wild Card spot. Max Fried starts for New York and he's been electric of late with a sub-1.50 ERA in his last five starts. During that time he's allowed less than a .186 batting average against and is strong against batters the first time faced in a game. I would be surprised if Colorado scores in the first inning on the road with a bottom-10 offense. The other side is the difficulty. Ryan Feltner hasn't been great but in his last two starts he has a 4.00 ERA and he has held the Yankees top of lineup hitless. Aaron Judge is back in the lineup which is scary but the odds here are still too short in favor of a first inning run. If you want to bet YRFI I'd suggest simply taking the Yankees first inning moneyline, otherwise, I'm on the NRFI.

Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners
Starting Pitchers: Jacob deGrom vs. Logan Gilbert
The other game we're covering is a battle between AL West foes. Jacob deGrom takes the bump and he's been solid this year with a sub-4.00 ERA. He has limited opponents to a .190 batting average in his last three starts and against Seattle this year owns a 1.29 ERA in his three starts. Against this lineup, deGrom has limited opponents to a .692 OPS and is even better against the top of the lineup. On the other side is Logan Gilbert, who is coming off a rough start but had a 3.38 ERA in his six August starts. Against Texas, Gilbert has a 3.71 ERA so he's handled the Rangers as well. What also stands out towards the NRFI is how both offenses rank in the bottom half of the league in YRFI rate. I'm more so fading the offenses than I am backing the pitchers, but either way I am still happy biting the bullet and eating the juice. Feel free to lay two units on this one.
