Sunday's Best MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Picks
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Arizona Diamondbacks (+133) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (-163) | O/U 7.5 (-110/-111)
Runs have been at a premium in this Diamondbacks (51-54) vs. Pirates (43-62) series, with the teams combining for only three runs (AZ: 1-0, PIT: 2-0) through the first two games. I'm expecting another low-scoring affair today, as Zac Gallen takes on Paul Skenes. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET from PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA.
The Diamondbacks have already sold off a couple of their sluggers in Josh Naylor and Randal Grichuk, and I don't see this short-handed Snakes offense turning things around against a top-tier hurler in Paul Skenes. The right-hander is just 5-8, but owns a 1.91 ERA (first) and a 0.91 WHIP (fourth). His 137 strikeouts are the ninth-most in the Majors.
Meanwhile, Zac Gallen has struggled this season with a 5.58 ERA (58th). However, we had this exact pitching matchup in The Valley on May 28, and these pitchers combined for a successful NRFI. Pittsburgh's current roster is slashing just .244/.327/.344 against Gallen across a 90-at-bat sample size. Finally, it's worth noting that the Pirates are ranked 28th in wOBA (.271) over the last seven days. The Diamondbacks are 29th (.269). This price of -135 actually feels short in my opinion, so I'll gladly take the NRFI.
Pick: NRFI (-135)
Miami Marlins (+149) vs. Milwaukee Brewers (-183) | O/U 7.0 (-121/+100)
The Marlins (50-53) have been the hottest team in baseball recently, going 20-8 in their last 28 games. They'll turn to Eury Perez to try and keep things rolling, while the Brewers (61-43) opt for Brandon Woodruff. First pitch is slated for 2:10 p.m. ET from American Family Field in Milwaukee, WI.
This should be another pitchers duel, and Brandon Woodruff will be looking to help his team avoid the sweep at the hands of the Fish. The right-hander has been dominant in three outings (16.1 IP) this season, going 2-0 with a 1.65 ERA and a 0.55 WHIP. Miami's top three hitters of Xavier Edwards (0-for-6), Agustin Ramirez (0-for-2), and Otto Lopez (0-for-4) are a combined 0-for-12 (.000) against Woodruff.
As for the bottom of the first, the Crew will be tasked with trying to score against Eury Perez. He brings in a 3.23 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP in eight starts (39.0 IP) this season. In four July starts (23.0 IP), the right-hander has posted a 1.17 ERA. Milwaukee's current roster is slashing just .182/.182/.273 against him over 11 at-bats. The Brewers are the third-best NRFI team in the Majors this season at 62-42 (60%). I expect them to add another tally in the NRFI win column today.
Pick: NRFI (-145)
New York Mets (-150) vs. San Francisco Giants (+123) | O/U 8.0 (-116/-105)
All roads lead to a Sunday Night Baseball showdown between the Mets (61-44) and the Giants (54-51). Kodai Senga will toe the rubber for New York, while San Francisco opts for Matt Gage. This National League clash gets underway at 7:10 p.m. ET from Oracle Park in San Francisco, CA.
Matt Gage has literally been untouchable this season. The left-hander, who has nine total outings (DET: 6, SF: 3) this season, owns a 0.00 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. Across 25 career appearances (29.1 IP), Gage has logged a 1.23 ERA. We don't have a huge head-to-head sample for Gage against the Mets, but what we do have is insightful. Pete Alonso (0-for-1), Francisco Lindor (0-for-1), and Juan Soto (0-for-1) are hitless (0-for-3) against him.
New York's Kodai Senga has been terrific in 2025, going 7-3 with a 1.79 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. San Francisco’s current roster is slashing just .200/.333/.300 against him across 20 at-bats. The Mets are the fifth-best NRFI team this season at 62-43 (59%), while San Francisco is a profitable 28-22 (56%) at home. I'm expecting a scoreless first frame tonight in The Bay.
Pick: NRFI (-120)
