Thursday’s Best No Runs First Inning Bets

Baltimore Orioles vs. New York Yankees

Pitching Matchup: Kyle Bradish vs. Luis Severino

Looking at the options we have to choose from today, this game really stands out. The Yankees are sending Luis Severino to the mound, and he has struggled mightily since returning from the IL. He is getting hit extremely hard and has an ERA over six. He is also getting hit hard early in games, which makes him a difficult bet here. But his velo has been better lately, and he should be able to keep a clean inning. Kyle Bradish gets the ball on the other side, and he has been fantastic this season. Bradish has been excellent the first time through the order, with a 0.259 wOBA allowed. While the Yankees’ offense has been better of late, they still struggled to put runs on the board. The odds on this one are at plus money, making it an extremely attractive bet even with Severino’s struggles.

Pick: +105

Texas Rangers vs. Boston Red Sox

Pitching Matchup: Kutter Crawford vs. Nathan Eovaldi

When looking at this bet, don’t look at the rankings of these offenses. Texas is the third-best offense in baseball, and Boston comes in at a healthy eleventh. Boston is asking Kutter Crawford to hold them back, and Crawford has been excellent, but his numbers suggest that he should be a multi-inning reliever. He is fantastic the first time through the order, with a 0.255 wOBA allowed, and that jumps to over 0.400 the next time he sees a hitter. He should be able to keep the first inning clean, which is all we need from him. Nathan Eovaldi gets to face his old team in this one, and he has also been great overall. Eovaldi has actually gotten stronger as the day goes on, but his first time through the order, wOBA is still an excellent 0.298. On paper, this doesn’t seem like it should be a plus-money bet despite the relative strengths of both of these offenses.

Pick: +110
