MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Odds, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (8/16)
Here are our favorite plays from today’s MLB slate.
Best Wednesday MLB Yes Runs First Inning (YRFI) Bets
New York Yankees vs. Atlanta Braves
Randy Vazquez vs. Charlie Morton
In this matchup, we are looking for the Braves to continue to bully the Yankees. In the first two games of this series, the Braves have outscored the Yankees 16-3. They have been able to push across at least one run in both games, and I’d expect the same today.
New York is starting Randy Vazquez, who is making his third start of the season. In 2 of his 3 starts, Vazquez has allowed at least three walks; you are asking for trouble if you give away three or more walks against a lineup like the Braves. A pitcher with an inconsistent command of his pitches and a low K% (15%) is a recipe for disaster, especially against Atlanta, who leads the MLB in runs scored in the first inning.
On the flipside, the Braves are sending out Charlie Morton, who has also been very shaky in his last few starts. Over his last five starts, he has allowed four or more runs in three of them.
Anytime you have Aaron Judge slotted in the top third of your lineup, you always have a shot at a YRFI.
Bet: YRFI -145
Cleveland Guardians vs. Cincinnati Reds
Noah Syndergaard vs. Andrew Abbott
Since being traded to Cleveland, Syndergaard has been halfway decent. In three starts, he is 1-1 with a 3.70 ERA. But, after taking a closer look, some regression will take place in the near future; in each of his starts, he has posted an xFIP of over 5, including 6.30 against the White Sox and 7.41 against Houston.
In his last start with the Dodgers in June, he faced the Reds. In just three innings, he gave up six runs on seven hits, including two home runs.
I think we will see a repeat performance in Cincinnati today.
Bet: YRFI -125
