Sunday’s Best MLB Picks & Predictions
Minnesota Twins vs. Baltimore Orioles
This matchup features two pitchers who had a 4.87 (Shane Baz) and 5.10 ERA (Bailey Ober) last season in a home run-friendly park.
But Minnesota is hitting .153 to start the season, and Baltimore is hitting .167. They may hit better today than in the first two games, but not so much better that the final score is over nine runs. Bet the under on the total in this game.
Pick: Under 9 Runs (-115 at bet365)
Los Angeles Angels vs. Houston Astros
Tatsuya Imai will be making his MLB debut today as the starter for the Houston Astros. He dominated in Japan last season with a 1.98 ERA. But it is fair to wonder whether Houston might keep him in too long, since the bullpen has pitched so much over the previous three games (12 innings).
But the Angels are sending Jack Kochanowicz to the mound, who went 3-11 in 23 starts last season with a 6.81 ERA and a 1.75 WHIP. In 22 at-bats against him, Houston hitters have gone .364. Yeah, if there was ever a game Houston should cover, it's this one.
Pick: Astros -1.5 (+125 at BetMGM)
Tampa Bay Rays vs. St. Louis Cardinals
I must be missing something obvious with this game. The first game in the series ended with the Rays winning 9-7, and then they took the second game yesterday in extra innings by a score of 6-5. The Cardinals are hitting .290 to start the season (fourth in the league), and the Rays are hitting .304 (third-best).
Tampa Bay is going with a bullpen day and starting reliever Steven Matz on the mound. The Rays’ bullpen has already given up 12 runs this season. The Cardinals are going with Dustin May, who went 6-7 in 19 starts with the Dodgers last season with a 4.85 ERA and 1.35 WHIP.
Yeah, this one is going over 7.5 runs.
Pick: Over 7.5 Runs (-120 at Fanatics Sportsbook)
Cleveland Guardians vs. Seattle Mariners
Cleveland is set to start Slade Cecconi, who was nothing special last season but is coming off a great spring training. Seattle is going with Emerson Hancock. He made 22 appearances last season, including 16 starts, going 4-5 with a 4.90 ERA and 1.36 WHIP.
The Guardians are hitting .226 to start the season, but have a few hitters showing out (like Chase DeLauter with three home runs to start the season). Seattle is second in the league with seven home runs, but the Mariners are just hitting .188.
Seattle was a good team last season, and they are playing at home. But based on what we've seen this season, betting the Guardians Moneyline is a solid value play.
Pick: Guardians Moneyline (+125 at bet365)
