Top 5 MLB Player Prop Bets Odds & Picks: Monday, August 22 (2022)

With only nine games on the slate, adding in some player props is an excellent way to give yourself some more volume. I’ve got you covered with my top five player props, which feature some of tonight’s best matchups.

Aaron Hicks Under 0.5 Hits (-125)
New York Mets vs. New York Yankees 7:05 pm ET

Max Scherzer has dominated Aaron Hicks when the two have faced off. In 16 career matchups, Hicks has just one hit off Scherzer and has struck out six times. Given Hicks’ .215 batting average and his .218 xBA, it’s tough to predict him having any success tonight. On top of that, Scherzer has been dominant this season. His xBA of .197 is among the top ten percent of all qualified pitchers.

Edward Cabrera Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-125)
Miami Marlins vs. Oakland Athletics 9:40 pm ET

Cabrera is the latest addition to the collection of electric young arms in the Miami rotation. He’ll enter this start with a 1.78 ERA and has racked up 36 strikeouts over 30 innings pitched this season. Tonight he gets to face an Oakland lineup that strikes out quite a bit. The A’s have the 11th highest strikeout rate in the majors. As for the total, we’ve seen Cabrera go over it in four of his six starts this year. That gives us implied odds of -200 that he’ll go over again.

Adam Oller Under 16.5 Pitching Outs (-115)
Miami Marlins vs. Oakland Athletics 9:40 pm ET

This line is way too high for Oller. I get that he has a good matchup against the Marlins lineup, but his 6.63 ERA and 1.61 WHIP do not instill much confidence against any lineup. It also helps that he has gone under this total in 86.7 percent of his starts. That gives us staggering -650 odds that it will go under again.

Julio Urias Under 6.5 Strikeouts (+115)
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angeles Dodgers 10:10 pm ET

We have both long-term and short-term results working in our favor for this play. Urias faced this same Brewers team in his last start. He struck out six starts in five innings of work. However, the bigger picture is even more in our favor. Urias has gone under this total in 73.9 percent of his starts this year. That gives us -283 that he’ll go under again.

Trea Turner Over 1.5 Total Bases (-115)
Milwaukee Brewers vs. Los Angles Dodgers 10:10 pm ET

Trea Turner has hit Eric Lauer very well over the course of his career. He’s hitting .417 with a double and two homers off Lauer. There are also some signs of him picking up extra bases tonight, as his average exit velocity is 91.3 mph and his average launch angle is 13 degrees. Turner has also excelled against left-handed pitching this season as he’s hit .310 with a .948 OPS.
