Davis Martin Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-102)
The Chicago White Sox continue their West Coast road trip against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim. The Angels have struck out 347 times through 35 games, leading the Majors, while averaging 9.91 strikeouts per game.
They’ve struck out 12 more times than the Colorado Rockies (335), while leading the American League by 27 strikeouts, with division rival Seattle (320) second in the American League and fourth overall.
White Sox righty Davis Martin has been a sensation during the early going this season, posting a 4-1 record, 1.95 ERA and 1.08 WHIP through six starts.
The 29-year-old from Abilene, Texas, has managed seven strikeouts in each of his past two outings. His last start was against the Halos on Tuesday at Rate Field, as the White Sox won 5-2 against the Angels. He allowed just one run while scattering seven hits with a walk and seven strikeouts in a 98-pitch outing.
JR Ritchie Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+122)
The Atlanta Braves invade T-Mobile Park for an Interleague series opener against the Seattle Mariners. Atlanta has 22-year-old righty JR Ritchie as the probable starter, and it just so happens that his hometown is Seattle.
Ritchie will be amped up for this game against his hometown team. In fact, he was the Gatorade Washington Baseball Player of the Year in his junior year at Bainbridge High School in 2021. He was the 35th overall pick in the 2022 MLB Amateur Draft.
Ritchie made his debut in Washington on April 23rd, and he struck out seven batters over seven innings in an 89-pitch quality start and win. He struck out four batters last time out in a no-decision over the Detroit Tigers. Again, pitching in his hometown, Ritchie will be fired up. The Mariners have struck out 320 times in 35 games, fourth in the Majors, so there are a ton of holes in those bats.
Ozzie Albies 2+ Hits + Runs + RBIs (+115)
Sticking with the Braves-Mariners game, we turn to Atlanta outfielder Ozzie Albies, who puts his 15-game hitting streak on the line in the Interleague series opener against the Mariners and JR Ritchie.
Albies is hitting .421 (24-for-57) during the impressive run, with 14 runs scored, three home runs and 13 RBI, while posting a .470 on-base percentage (OBP) and .702 slugging rate. He has obviously never faced Ritchie, so that’s a little concerning, but he is red-hot, so it shouldn’t matter much.
Steven Kwan 2+ Hits + Runs + RBIs (-145)
Cleveland’s Steven Kwan is off to a bit of a sluggish start this season, hitting just .224 with a single home run and nine RBI, while posting a .607 OPS. He is starting to heat up a bit, hitting safely in four straight games, totaling five hits in the span, and he has hit safely in seven of the previous eight outings.
Kwan and the Guardians meet the division rival Royals in a series opener Monday at Kauffman Stadium, with Kansas City using veteran righty Michael Wacha. The outfielder has the most extensive history against Wacha, going 7-for-21 (.333) with a double, a home run and two RBI, posting an .857 OPS. Facing Wacha could be the elixir to cure Kwan’s hitting ills.
