Tanner Bibee Over 5.5 Strikeouts (+125)
Tanner Bibee has gotten off to a slow start this season, but he seems to have found his form recently. Take a look at his last three game logs:
- 6.1 Innings, 4 Hits, 3 Earned Runs, 2 Walks, 6 Strikeouts
- 5.0 Innings, 7 Hits, 4 Earned Runs, 2 Walks, 7 Strikeouts
- 7.0 Innings, 3 Hits, 0 Earned Runs, 1 Walk, 8 Strikeouts
That works out to a 28.4% strikeout rate, which is closer to last year’s 26.3 K%. Prior to these three starts, Bibee had a below-average 16.4% strikeout rate.
While it’s a tough matchup against the Astros, who have a 20.8 K% vs righties (12th), I’m willing to take a shot on Bibee given his recent form and the appealing price (+125 odds).
Michael Lorenzen Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-150)
This one is a bit juiced at (-150) odds, but it’s worth a look because this number should probably be at 3.5 instead of 4.5 strikeouts.
Michael Lorenzen has racked up only two strikeouts in each of his last two outings. This is a pitcher with an underwhelming 10.1% swinging-strike rate.
On top of that, the White Sox have shown improvements in limiting strikeouts lately, putting up a 20.1% strikeout rate vs righties in the last 14 days, which ranks 10th in MLB.
Drink the juice and bet on Lorenzen to get four strikeouts or fewer in a matchup that’s tougher than it looks.
Carlos Rodon Over 7.5 Strikeouts (+100)
Carlos Rodon is pitching like an ace this season, registering a 3.03 SIERA and 31.6% strikeout rate.
While 7.5 strikeouts is a high bar at first glance, diving into Rodon’s game log shows you that this is easily attainable. The Yankees’ lefty has eight or more strikeouts in eight of his last 11 starts.
This includes a high ceiling of 9+ K in three of those outings.
Additionally, the Red Sox have a 24.9% strikeout rate against lefties in the last 14 games. This is an exploitable matchup for Rodon to keep the good times rolling.
