Max Scherzer Over 14.5 Outs Recorded (-140)
Max Scherzer has made it known that he will wait until the offseason to decide whether will return for a 20th MLB season. Nevertheless, all eyes will be on him when he toes the rubber in Toronto on Sunday afternoon. The eight-time All-Star is going to empty the tank, which means it’ll be hard for manager John Schneider to pull him early. After all, Scherzer has completed five innings or more in nine of his last 10 starts.
Expect that trend to continue against a lackluster Cincinnati offense. The Reds rank 27th in OPS versus right-handed pitching (.693) and 29th in on-base percentage versus American League arms (.299). Not only that, but they sport the fourth-highest whiff rate in the Majors (27.1%). Overall, the opposing starting pitcher has recorded at least 15 outs in six of Cincinnati’s previous eight contests. Trust Mad Max to spare no effort.
Kyle Freeland Under 14.5 Outs Recorded (+108)
The Rockies will hand the ball to their longest-tenured active player on Sunday. Right-hander Kyle Freeland will make his 257th start for the franchise. Take note that he has made two appearances since being activated from the 15-day injured list with a pinched nerve in his neck. Freeland did not record more than 12 outs or throw more than 69 pitches in either outing. There’s no point in pushing him to the brink in game 162.
It’s important not to overlook the tough matchup Freeland draws. The Brewers have scored the second-most runs (826), logged the third-highest OPS (.744), and stolen the third-most bases (162) in the league. It’s safe to assume some stars will rest with a first-round bye already locked up. However, Milwaukee’s depth is their calling card. Back underrated role players like Garrett Mitchell and Joey Ortiz to chase Freeland before he finishes five frames.
Mike Trout to Hit a Home Run (+420)
Baseball fans will endure another postseason without Mike Trout. The Angels outfielder has put together a solid campaign, though, slashing .243/.383/.423 with 22 home runs and 54 RBI in 142 games. Trout has also been a top-50 pro in hard-hit rate (46.3%) and launch angle sweet-spot percentage (38.2%). The consistent power that helped him earn three American League MVP Awards has not gone anywhere.
Facing Logan Gilbert on Sunday gives Trout a chance to end the year on a positive note. The Seattle right-hander has allowed at least one homer in nine of his past 10 starts. Poor marks in hard-hit rate (41.2%) and barrel rate (10.1%) are to blame for his struggles to limit the long ball in 2026. It’s worth mentioning that Trout is 4-for-13 with two blasts against Gilbert. Bank on Trout quieting the crowd at T-Mobile Park with a majestic moon shot.
