MLB Player Props & Bets: Tuesday (9/15)
I've dissected today's entire slate of games to bring you the best three player props. First, Yoshinobu Yamamoto gets a great matchup against a Reds offense that strikes out a lot. Then, I highlight why Jacob Misiorowski should reach at least nine strikeouts for the second consecutive game and why Yordan Alvarez should break out of his home run slump. Yoshinobu Yamamoto 8+ Strikeouts (+118)
Strikeouts have continued to be problematic for the Reds, and tonight they face a pitcher that has absolutely dominated them. Current Reds batters have faced Yoshinobu Yamamoto 71 times. They have struck out in 28 of those plate appearances, producing a batting average of just .152.
Yamamoto has struck out 171 batters in 172 innings, so at a rate of less than one strikeout per inning, seeing eight or more strikeouts may scare some bettors away. But last Wednesday, Yamamoto pitched seven innings against the Reds, allowing just one earned run and striking out 10 batters.
Yamamoto has pitched at least six innings in five consecutive games, reaching seven innings in back-to-back starts. Against the league's most strikeout-prone team, it's almost unthinkable that he won’t reach at least eight strikeouts in at least six innings. And he'll likely pitch deeper into the game, as he's dominated the Reds in his career and has pitched at least eight innings four times this season.
Jacob Misiorowski 9+ Strikeouts (+140)
In his last start, Jacob Misiorowski struck out nine Cubs despite pitching only 6.1 innings. He now has 236 strikeouts in 161.1 innings this season. He's struck out at least nine batters in 14 starts.
The Pirates enter this game with the fourth-most strikeouts in the league. When they faced Misiorowski earlier this season, they struck out nine times, though he only pitched six innings.
The only real concern is Misiorowski getting chased early. After all, the Pirates have scored the fifth-most runs in the league. But Misiorowski is holding the Pirates to a .174 batting average this season, and he has an MLB-best 1.95 ERA. He's allowed more than three earned runs just once all season, which is why he's also pitched at least five innings in all but one game.
Yordan Alvarez to Hit a Home Run (+280)
Yordan Alvarez has only faced Royals starter Michael Wacha seven times in his career. However, he has two hits - one was a double and the other a home run.
Alvarez enters this game with 38 home runs, but he has only one in September. Alvarez is in a serious slump of late, hitting just three home runs since the start of August. However, I expect that to change tonight against the Royals.
Wacha has allowed 24 home runs this season. Though he didn't allow any in his last start, he's given up at least one home run in nine of his last 12 appearances. During that span, he's allowed a total of 14 home runs.
