MLB Player Props & Bets: Wednesday (8/5)
I am turning the page on what was admittedly a rough month of July. Hopefully, a new month means a fresh start. With that in mind, I am ready to help us all make this hump day a little brighter with some extra money in our pockets. Here are my three favorite MLB player props for Wednesday, August 5.

Wednesday's Best MLB Player Props & Bets
(All bets one unit unless otherwise specified.)
Tommy Edman OVER 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI (-115 at DraftKings)
My first MLB player prop for Wednesday is on Tommy Edman of the Los Angeles Dodgers to record at least two combined hits, runs, and runs batted in against Shota Imanaga and the Chicago Cubs.
In a lineup full of stars, Edman batted third in the order in each of the last five games in which Los Angeles faced a left-handed starter. That puts him in a prime position to be in the middle of any offensive rallies that may occur. In addition, Edman has been a one-man rally in his previous matchups with Imanaga. Edman is 4-for-8 with three home runs lifetime when facing Chicago's left-hander.
Edman's power stroke has always been much more prolific versus lefties. Since joining the Dodgers in 2024, Edman has hit 13 homers in just 202 plate appearances against southpaws. He has already homered in this series against a left-handed pitcher. For those curious, as of this writing, you can bet Edman to hit a home run at +500 at Fanatics.
I started referring to Edman as Tommy Tickets early last year because he was consistently cashing for me on HRRBI and Total Bases props. I expect Edman to send us to the pay window once again on Wednesday.
TJ Rumfield OVER 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI (-125 at Fanatics)
Next, I am taking TJ Rumfield of the Colorado Rockies to produce at least two total hits, runs, and RBI in Wednesday's matinee against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Rays are going with Nick Martinez as their starter on Wednesday. (Fun fact: Wednesday is Martinez's birthday.) Martinez enters this game with a 2.77 ERA. However, his underlying metrics suggest that number is due for regression. The 36-year-old has a 4.60 xERA and 4.68 xFIP.
Martinez does not miss many bats. Among 58 qualified pitchers, he has the fifth-lowest swinging strike rate. That is not a recipe for success in Coors Field. In three career starts in Colorado, Martinez has allowed 11 runs and 16 hits in 12 innings. I expect the Rockies to be able to string some hits together in this game. Rumfield should be right in the thick of the fray.
Colorado's first baseman is hitting .333 when facing right-handed pitchers in Coors this season. He also profiles well against the arsenal he will encounter from Martinez. Overall this year, Rumfield is hitting .322 against the four pitches that Martinez throws most often versus left-handed hitters.
Both Colorado and Tampa Bay used seven pitchers in Tuesday night's extra-inning affair. With this game being a day game, I believe Kevin Cash will let Martinez go as long as he can. Rumfield should face Martinez three times, and I think that will be enough for him to cash this prop.
I thought about going the Total Base route but didn't love the price relative to Rumfield's HRRBI price. If this ends up in the -140 to -150 range, then perhaps TB will be the better option.
Daylen Lile Over 1.5 Total Bases (+100 at Fanatics)
For my final MLB player prop on Wednesday. I am going with Daylen Lile of the Washington Nationals to rack up multiple bases in Philadelphia.
Lile has been a legitimately good hitter against right-handed pitchers in his career, particularly on the road. He has a career .543 slugging percentage, including 35 extra-base hits in 304 career plate appearances in this split. Lile has a great chance to improve upon those numbers when he faces Andrew Painter.
Painter's rookie season has been what the experts label "not good". Among 142 pitchers who have thrown at least 70 innings this year, Painter has allowed the fifth-highest batting average, 10th-highest slugging percentage, and 10th-highest home run per nine-inning rate. He has allowed left-handed hitters to slug .517, including a .521 mark at home.
With James Wood injured and Luis Garcia Jr. out of town, Washington will rely on Lile to help pick up the slack. Lile will hit towards the top of the lineup and may very well lead off for the Nationals on Wednesday. He is 2-for-2 with a double against Painter in their previous matchups.
I don't necessarily trust the rest of Washington's hitters outside of CJ Abrams to help Lile exceed his HRRBI threshold, so I am taking him to register at least two total bases in this game. I also think Abrams makes sense here, but I am worried Painter might pitch around him given the lack of protection surrounding him.
