MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions: Saturday (4/15)

Hello, all! This is my first PrizePicks article on the MLB side of things for BettingPros, but I’ve been covering baseball for the past couple of seasons. So far, ya boi known as @808Paperboi is 41-16 on MLB picks this season and up over 26 units. Hopefully, that success carries over here as well!

Saturday's Best MLB PrizePicks Player Predictions

Here are the best MLB PrizePicks plays for Saturday, April 15.

Domingo German Under 5.5 Strikeouts

*Wrote the German play last night, but still playable at Under 5*

As you’ll come to find out, pitcher props are what I typically wager on, and this looks like a decent spot to fade Domingo German. Domingo possesses some elite spin rates but hasn’t really turned those numbers into many strikeouts as of late. Last season he was in the bottom 26% in strikeout rate and bottom 39% in Whiff%. In turn, he stayed under this mark in 10 of his last 16 starts since 2022.

German rarely works deep into games either and has failed to pitch into the sixth inning in 11 of his last 16 starts dating back to last season as well. He is also coming off a zero-strikeout outing against the Guardians, where he threw just three and two-thirds innings. The Twins are a bit more vulnerable to punching out than Cleveland, but with this listed at -130 at DraftKings, it’s clearly a valuable look for PrizePicks.

Freddy Peralta Over 5.5 Strikeouts

The Padres aren’t a team to typically swing and miss much, but Freddy Peralta isn’t any ordinary pitcher. He battled through injuries last season, hence the lower strikeout numbers, but he appears to be back to his old whiffing ways so far this year. Freddy has racked up seven strikeouts in each start, against two of the more difficult teams to strikeout no less, the Mets and the Cardinals.

Posting those kinds of strikeout numbers was a regular occurrence for Peralta in his first full year of starting back in 2021. He eclipsed this line in 21 of 24 “full” starts that year and was in the top 95% in K%, xwOBA/xERA, and in the top 92% in Whiff%. Spencer Strider, another flamethrowing starter who primarily throws fastball/slider, struck out nine Padres in five innings a few days ago. I wouldn’t be surprised if Peralta does more of the same this Saturday. This line is priced closer to -130 at a couple of books, too, so the over is clearly the side to be eyeing here.

Nick Pivetta Under 6 Strikeouts

The Angels have yet to allow a Starting Pitcher to have seven or more strikeouts this season. Now, the 13 SPs to face them haven’t been the biggest strikeout artists, but it’s not like Pivetta has really ever been that guy for his career either, aside from a 2018 season. In 2022 he failed to clear this in 25 of 33 starts and had five or fewer strikeouts in 23 of 33.

Yes, he does have six strikeouts in each outing this year, but they have yet to let him pitch past the fifth inning. If this play doesn’t pique your interest, another interesting look could be to target Anthony Rendon against Pivetta and the Sox. Rendon has a .567 xwOBA across 26 plate appearances versus Pivetta and is 12-24 with three doubles and four home runs. He is +115 to have over 1.5 total bases at DraftKings.
