MLB Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks for Sunday, August 28 (2022)

It's the last Sunday in August, as we get closer to the end of the regular season. We have a couple of exciting matchups today including some playoff hopefuls, and they need every win they can get as part of these tight races.

Colorado Rockies vs. New York Mets

• Leg 1: Max Scherzer Over 7.5 strikeouts (-126)
• Leg 2: Jeff McNeil to record 2+ total bases (+100)
• Leg 3: Mets -2.5 (+102)

The Mets are looking for a clean sweep in Queens against the Rockies, as they hold a slim lead in the National League East.

They have the right man to do it with Max Scherzer on the mound, but he's not been his usual self lately, allowing four earned runs in each of his last two starts.

Today is a good chance for him to get back on track. While the Rockies have the second-best batting average this season (.263), they have big curves thanks to playing in Denver’s thin air. On the road, they are 18th in AVG (.236) and their 3.17 runs per game is two lower than at home.

There is no easy way to say it: German Marquez is having an awful season. Coming into tonight, he's allowed the second-most earned runs and the third-most hits (152), to go along with a 5.22 ERA. A few players in the Mets’ lineup have a good history against Marquez, including Jeff McNeil, who has three doubles in six at-bats.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Houston Astros

• Leg 1: Justin Verlander Over 6.5 strikeouts (-122)
• Leg 2: Trey Mancini to record 2+ total bases (+140)
• Leg 3: Astros -1.5 (-118)

It's tough to not to say Justin Verlander is the American League Cy Young winner. He leads the A.L. with 16 wins, a 1.87 ERA, 0.846 WHIP, and 4.5 WAR amongst pitchers. The incredible run that Baltimore is on has been mainly due to the pitching, and the offense has taken a slide recently, ranking 24th with a .216 average and 18th with 87 wRC+ since Aug. 14. That looks like chum to a shark like Verlander.

Austin Voth moving up the Beltway has been beneficial for him. As a reliever for the Nationals, he left with a 10.18 ERA; but since coming to Baltimore, he has a 2.85 ERA in 15 games, including 11 starts. He does have one appearance against Houston this season and it wasn't a good one, as he allowed two earned in one inning. However, that was with the Nats, so maybe it'll be different with the O's.

I'm going with a low-scoring game, but you can't go against Verlander.

Atlanta Braves vs. St. Louis Cardinals

• Leg 1: Over 8 (-104)
• Leg 2: Austin Riley to record 2+ total bases (+105)
• Leg 3: Paul Goldschmidt to record 3+ total bases (+200)

Two of the best offensive lineups will meet in a rubber match on Sunday Night Baseball.

Adam Wainwright has been either really good or bad in his last few starts. He's been roughed up a couple of times, including a seven-run outing against the Reds and six against the Yankees. But outside of those two games, he's allowed two or fewer runs in his seven other previous outings. This will be an excellent lineup that continues to hit with power, but they are a great overall hitting team; their .336 BABIP in August leads the league.

Jake Odorizzi hasn't been too good since coming to the Braves with a 4.58 ERA in four starts. He earned his first win with the team last week, going six innings, allowing one earned, but it was against Pittsburgh, one of the worst offenses in the league. It will be tough to go from facing a bottom-tier offense to one of the hottest.
