MLB Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions: Friday (4/7)

With a large number of the scheduled Home Openers for teams pushed back due to weather concerns we luck into a full slate of Friday baseball. As is always the case with baseball, there are a number of intriguing betting angles for us to attack.

Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook

Oakland Athletics at Tampa Bay Rays

  • Leg 1: Total Runs o8.5 (+125)
  • Leg 2: Isaac Paredes To Homer (+650)
  • Leg 3: Zach Eflin 4+Strikeouts (-320)

The Rays’ offense is off to a roaring start and faces a left-handed pitcher in Ken Waldichuk. Small sample, but the Rays have had a slightly above-average offense by wRC+ against lefties but also optimize their offense for opposing pitchers, and I expect them to come out hot against the lefty. The Rays will do most of the lifting here, but the Athletics offense can add on a few runs to reach the total.

One of those “lefty mashers” is Isaac Paredes, who has a career 130 wRC+ versus southpaws. He has not gotten off to a great start this season, but I think this is where he breaks out and has a big game.

The HR bet is longer than I typically like to include in these SGPs, so we are including a bet that we are fairly confident will hit. Eflin has always shown flashes of greatness, and the Rays have made some significant changes to his pitch mix, which might be what was needed to truly breakout.

Parlay Odds: +1300

Texas Rangers at Chicago Cubs

  • Leg 1: Total Runs o7.5 (+115)
  • Leg 2: Corey Seager 2+ Hits (+240)
  • Leg 3: Marcus Stroman 6+ Hits (+140)

The wind is likely to be blowing in at Wrigley, which can always help to limit offense, but the Rangers have been able to start the season hot, and while Marcus Stroman was excellent in his first start, I am skeptical he will keep it up and help us reach this number.

After a great 2022 season, Seager has gotten off to a rough start despite a number of people projecting him to be a huge benefactor of the shift rules. I think this is the breakout game for him, as his hard-hit rates and barrel rates are both higher than the previous few seasons. This seems like bad luck to begin the year, and I think it turns today.

Stroman’s first start included some massive K numbers that are out of line with his career norms. He has always been more of a pitch-to-contact style of pitcher, and that does not match up great with this Rangers’ offense. Along with Seager, he appears to be a good matchup for guys like Nate Lowe and Adolis Garcia, and I think they have a big game against him.

Parlay Odds: +575

San Diego Padres at Atlanta Braves

  • Leg 1: Padres ML (+105)
  • Leg 2: Manny Machado 2+ Total Bases (-105)
  • Leg 3: Matt Olsen 2+ Total Bases (+115)

The first game of this series had a playoff feel and was a fantastic back-and-forth contest. The Braves are sending rookie Jared Schuster who struggled in his first inning but really settled down after that. Nick Martinez had a tough first start against the Rockies, but he is a veteran pitcher who has thrown some big games before, so I think he can be the better of the two in this matchup.

In his career, Machado has hit both left-handed and right-handed pitching the same. He is just an all-around fantastic hitter. While the start has been a bit slower than some of his teammates, I think he is just too good of a hitter to be kept down for long, and he breaks out in this one.

Olsen has gotten off to a fantastic start and has been crushing pitches. Martinez does not have big swing-and-miss stuff, which means he may struggle to take advantage of Olsen’s weaknesses, so as a result, there should be lots of balls in play. Olsen is too good of a hitter for this to be a plus-money leg.

Parlay Odds: +650
