Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies

Since returning from the injured list, Ranger Suarez has struggled if we look strictly at the surface stats. However, his underlying numbers paint him to be the exact same pitcher he has been for the last two seasons. That is a very solid starter on paper. Yet, today he is tasked with trying to contain this Dodgers’ offense which is one of the league’s best. The Dodgers have a 119 wRC+ against left-handed pitchers this season fifth in the league. They should have no issues scoring in this one against the Phillies. Michael Grove gets the ball for the Dodgers and his surface numbers are hiding a really interesting pitcher. Grove has allowed too many home runs but there’s a nice strikeout arm in there who could be elite if he was able to control the long ball. The Phillies’ offense has been struggling so I think this is a great bet for Grove and the Dodgers.

Chris Taylor has been excellent against left-handed pitching in 2023 with a wRC+ of 152. For a guy who hits for a ton of power against lefties, these odds are much better than I would have expected. This is a great bet to pair with this game.

Combined Odds: +475

Minnesota Twins at Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays’ offense feels like it has been a bit of a letdown in 2023, however, they still have the fifth-best wRC+ in the league. Sonny Gray has been downright unhittable but his minuscule HR rate is unlikely to continue. With the power of the Blue Jays’ offense, this seems like the game where regression could begin to take over. The Jays should be able to hit this over. In order to hit the Runline side of the bet, we need Yusei Kikuchi to look more like his early-season self. Kikuchi has solved one of his major issues, too many walks, but the much bigger one, too many homers, is still a major problem. The Twins’ offense struggles against lefties with a 91 wRC+. Their ISO is middle of the pack so hopefully Kikuchi can use this to his advantage and keep the ball in the yard.

Belt is one of the hottest hitters in the league, with a 246 wRC+ in the month of June. He has a 148 wRC+ versus right-handed pitchers and similarly to Taylor, these odds should be much closer to +100.

Combined Odds: +550

Seattle Mariners at Los Angeles Angels

While he hasn’t been bad by any means, Shohei Ohtani has struggled a bit this season with three starts of 4+ runs allowed. The Mariners’ offense has been slightly below average with a 96 wRC+ but there’s enough offensive upside in the lineup to do damage against Ohtani. This is much more of a bet in favor of Mariners’ starter Luis Castillo who has been excellent this season. The Ks are elite and the walks are low enough to allow him to continue to post sub-three ERAs. The Angels have a solid offense but they are not by means elite especially since Ohtani tends to struggle a bit as a hitter in the games he pitches in.

After a red-hot start to the season, Kelenic has taken steps back in May and June. His upside and the reason for taking this bet though is that he has a power and speed combo that is unmatched for many. All we need is for him to find one gap to hit this bet and I believe that he will make that happen.

Combined Odds: +525
