MLB Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions: Friday (8/25)

We are heading into the last weekend of August with playoff races heating up. Some teams have already been calling up prospects, as the dates for them to remain rookie eligible next season have passed. This makes betting a bit tougher late in the season but it still provides opportunities for us to take advantage of. Let’s dive into today’s slate.

MLB Same Game Parlay Picks: Friday (8/25)

New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays

Legs 1 and 2: Yankees +110 and Yankees over 4.5 Runs (+175)

Simply put, we are betting on this one because Gerrit Cole should never be an underdog. Despite all of the Yankees’ struggles, Cole has not been the reason for any of them. He is likely the AL CY Young winner and has had success against the Tampa lineup already this season. He always puts the Yankees in a position to win and the offense needs to help them get there. In order to do that they will need to score and with Aaron Judge looking 100% healthy again and some youth potentially sparking them I think they can get to Zach Eflin. Recently Eflin has traded off blowups and elite outings but I think the Yankees’ offense has just enough to make one of those blowup games happen.

Leg 3: Anthony Volpe 2+ total bases (+170)

Monthly splits don’t mean a ton, but in August Volpe has a 119 wRC+ with an ISO over 0.200. This time has also coincided with when Sean Casey took over as hitting coach. It seems the young SS is starting to get his feet underneath him as the season progresses.

Cleveland Guardians at Toronto Blue Jays

Legs 1 and 2: Guardians +125 and Guardians over 4.5 runs (+145)

Tanner Bibee looks like the next superstar pitcher for the Cleveland organization. The young righty has only allowed more than three runs in two of his twenty starts this season and those came back in June and May. Similarly to Cole, he does a fantastic job keeping Cleveland in the game and in a position to win. Cleveland’s offense has been cratering lately, with the second-worst wRC+ in the last thirty days, but I still believe they can do their part to hit this leg of the parlay. Chris Bassitt has allowed a homer in each of his last five games and while the Guardians don’t have a ton of power hitters, there are a few guys who could take advantage of this and will help them hit their over.

Leg 3: Kole Calhoun 2+ total bases (+160)

I won’t blame you if you didn’t realize that Calhoun was playing for the Guardians but he has quietly been really good with a 121 wRC+ in his 59 plate appearances. Calhoun has always hit righties better than lefties and is one of the few hitters in this lineup with any form of pop.

Texas Rangers at Minnesota Twins

Legs 1 and 2: Rangers -1.5 (+165) and Rangers over 5.5 runs (+190)

The Rangers have arguably the best offense in baseball and while Sonny Gray has been fantastic this season, he has had quite a few blowups this season. He tends to stay in games just a bit too long and teams take advantage of it. The Rangers’ offense is talented enough to do damage in this one. While Gray has succeeded by limiting the long ball, accomplishing that will be extremely difficult against this lineup. Nothing about Dane Dunning is exciting on paper, but he consistently goes deep into games and keeps the opposing offense off the board. This combo leads to wins for the Rangers and sets them up great for this bet to hit.

Leg 3: Marcus Semien 2+ total bases (-105)

Semien hits leadoff so he should get a ton of chances in this one and he has a 123 wRC+. His ISO is not elite but the combo of power, PAs, and AVG makes Semien a great bet to get on base multiple times.
