Detroit Tigers at Toronto Blue Jays

After an awful start to the season with a 6.00 ERA in his first three starts, we're seeing a much better Reese Olson, as he has a 1.95 ERA in his last five. The big difference is he's keeping the ball at the lower part of the strike zone, while earlier his pitches were breaking to the heart of the plate. When his sinker and change-up are working, he's getting the swing and misses, as he's in the 88th percentile in whiff rate, or getting batters to swing over the top and inducing the ground ball.

However, this will be a tough matchup against the Blue Jays, who have the best whiff rate (22.6%) and the 11th-lowest ground ball rate (41.6%). The Blue Jays could avoid those deceiving pitches and make Olson work.

St. Louis Cardinals at Kansas City Royals

Miles Mikolas made the All-Star team in his first year in St. Louis, but it’s been downhill after that with a 4.35 ERA, and six consecutive seasons with an under .500 record. He’s never been an overpowering pitcher, but it looks like he approaches his opposition like one because he tends to throw at the heart of the plate rather than trying to paint corners. This is how his whiff rate is in the second percentile, and his barrel rate is in the 31st percentile.

The Royals’ roster has some solid numbers against Mikolas, with a .465 slugging percentage and a 23.3% whiff rate. In just one start at Kauffman Stadium, he allowed five earned runs in four innings.

Parlay Odds: +621

Colorado Rockies at Arizona Diamondbacks

The Rockies are on their way to becoming the worst team ever as their 7-37 record is the second-worst 44-game start in league history. They are either last or close to last in every statistical category, including 29th in runs scored per game (3.13) and last in ERA (5.73).

German Marquez has had some tough seasons with a career 4.56 ERA, but this year has been his worst. He's nearly double that career mark with an 8.26 ERA and -0.8 WAR. He's coming off his best start of the year against the Padres, where he went seven innings and allowed one run. He could put together another solid outing against a Diamondbacks lineup that has a career .229 batting average.

On the other side, Zac Gallen goes for Arizona, where the Rockies lineup is batting .238 and has a 30.8% strikeout rate.
