St. Louis Cardinals at New York Yankees
- Leg 1: Under 9 Total Runs (-112)
- Leg 2: Yankees -1.5 (+102)
- Leg 3: Yankees Over 4.5 Runs (-120)
The Yankees cannot afford to lose these series against below-average teams. They lost two out of three against the Nationals, and now they have to play a rubber match with the Cardinals. Offensively, yesterday, they attempted a late comeback but came up short in a 6-5 loss.
The pitching failed them once again, as Will Warren allowed four earned runs in a horrible start. That has been the trend for a while as they are 25th in ERA since June 15th (4.74).
Nestor Cortes Jr. has not been the same pitcher since his breakout 2022 season, and he's been inconsistent in 2024. In his last three starts, he's allowed one earned run in 20 innings, but in the previous five before those, he allowed 24 earned runs in 23 innings.
We can't say the Cardinals are in the same conversation as the Yankees’ previous opponents, like the Rockies and Nationals, but they've been barely a .500 team the whole season.
Neither the hitting nor the pitching has been any good. Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt are having underwhelming seasons, and aside from Sonny Gray, they haven't had any dependable starters.
That includes Miles Mikolas, whose excellent 2022 season earned him a big contract. He has not lived up to it and has a 5.23 ERA this season and a 4.87 in the last two.

Kansas City Royals at Houston Astros
- Leg 1: Yordan Alvarez Over 1.5 Total Bases (-120)
- Leg 2: Astros Moneyline (-166)
- Leg 3: Alec Marsh Over 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-135)
This series has been all Astros, as they are looking for the four-game sweep. They've become one of the best all-around teams again, as they are third in batting average (.261) and fifth in ERA (3.72).
This has helped them start to build a lead in the American League West. It also helps that the Mariners started choking away the season, allowing the Astros to take over that division.
August was not the best month for Ronel Blanco. He came into the month with a 2.95 ERA, but in August, he pitched to a 4.07 ERA, and the Astros were 2-3 in his starts.
This is not a good time for the Royals to get into a slump. They are very close to the Guardians for the American League Central, and they came into this series tied with them in the division but lost it this weekend.
They need to salvage this game because if they sweep the Guardians in the upcoming series, they will be guaranteed the lead.
It's been a better sophomore season for Alec Marsh, but he has struggled in his recent starts and has struggled over his last six appearances (five starts) and has a 6.29 ERA.
Kansas City must hope for a Cleveland loss because they will suffer one today themselves.
