MLB Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks: Thursday (5/8)
Betting on baseball can be difficult; the stupid baseball always seemingly works against whatever you need it to do.
Does that unmotivate me? No way. Looking into the motivations of players and the somewhat forced hand of managerial decisions has been good so far this year.
Now we just need it to translate to a Thursday same-game-parlay (SGP). Green grass, birds are chirping, today’s the day. Let’s look at some MLB picks and props as part of our SGP betting cards.

Rockies vs. Tigers
- Leg 1: Casey Mize Under 17.5 Outs Recorded (-105)
- Leg 2: Over 9.5 Runs (-118)
- Leg 3: Ryan McMahon 2+ Total Bases (+130)
Leg 1: Casey Mize Under 17.5 Outs Recorded (-105)
The Tigers' bullpen is rested, like very rested. They haven't been pushed much over the past five days, so manager A.J. Hinch won't hesitate to go to his pen if Casey Mize runs into trouble or simply wants to manage his innings.
At Coors Field, trouble tends to show up when balls get put into play. Mize has not thrown more than 90 pitches per start this season in any start, and doesn’t miss many bats. That's a tough profile to lean on in Coors with a rested bullpen behind him.
Leg 2: Over 9.5 Runs (-118)
Both starters - Casey Mize and Kyle Freeland - are dead last in pitches seen per plate appearance. That means hitters aren't grinding out long at-bats - they're swinging early and balls are getting put in play.
What do you get when you put all of that in Coors Field with two middle-of-the-pack offenses? Crooked numbers. If the Tigers are only a -205 favorite, oddsmakers anticipate both sides scoring runs, which works for me. I’d stay away from Tigers Moneyline in this one, as it feels like a trap.
Leg 3: Ryan McMahon 2+ Total Bases (+130)
Ryan McMahon is swinging a hot bat right now - .500 over his last four games with a pair of homers. He’s seeing the ball well. If Mize is living in the zone (which he sometimes can), McMahon will get chances to do damage. With a decently high over/under, McMahon is projected for plenty of at-bats. He has the platoon advantage and is seeing the ball well.

Blue Jays vs. Angels
- Leg 1: Chris Bassitt Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-160)
- Leg 2: Under 8.5 Runs (-115)
Leg 1: Chris Bassitt Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (-160)
This one's pretty simple. The Blue Jays’ bullpen is gassed. Five straight days of high-leverage usage means they'll be leaning on Chris Bassitt to go deep into the game. He’s capable of logging plenty of innings, having pitched into the sixth in five straight starts with no signs of slowing down.
If Bassitt is dealing, he could even get through seven. Even if he’s not, I think the Blue Jays try to reset the bullpen today.
Leg 2: Under 8.5 Runs (-115)
Neither of these lineups is scaring anyone lately. The Angels and Jays both rank in the bottom four in team OPS over the past 30 days. With two veterans on the mound and bullpens that are stretched or underperforming, this has the makings of a slower, lower-scoring grind.
Ship it. Feeling great about these today.
