Zack Wheeler has been tremendous in most games this season for the Phillies. The veteran right-hander has earned 29.5% of strikeouts over the last month and has limited his previous 95 batters to a .081 ISO and wOBA of .216. However, he’ll face a Chicago Cubs lineup that has struck out only 18.8% of the time against righties. Chicago’s lineup has earned a .370 wOBA against righties and only has three batters who have struck out more than 19.5% of the time against righties.
In the last month, Wheeler’s strikeout numbers have dipped slightly over time. Now, he’s facing a Cubs lineup that is pretty disciplined at the plate.
Conversely, the Phillies will battle Matthew Boyd of the Cubs. Boyd is a lefty who has allowed a .217 ISO and wOBA of .321 to his last 89 righties. Ultimately, he’s given up 37.7% of fly balls and has induced only 27.9% of ground balls over the previous month against righties. He’s also given up an 11.5% barrel rate and has earned just 10% of swinging strikes during that time.
Trea Turner will lead things off for the Phillies. He’s already hit a .405 ISO and wOBA of .444 with 15% of strikeouts against lefties over the last month. Edmundo Sosa has also performed well with a .190 ISO and wOBA of .450 against his last 24 lefties. Those two righties have some potential against Boyd tonight.
