(Odds Courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
Los Angeles Angels vs. Houston Astros
Leg #1: Over 9.0 Runs (-114)
Neither lineup has been doing a great job at the plate over the last week:
- Astros: .233
- Angels: .248
But with the two starters taking the mound today, that should change for both teams. Christian Javier has a 1.70 WHIP and a 6.68 ERA, while teams are hitting .300 against him. George Klassen has a 2.11 WHIP, and teams have hit .296 against him on the road.
We should see some offense in this game and plenty of runs on the scoreboard.
Leg #2: Isaac Paredes to Record a Hit (-210)
It's not a great price and a market I'd typically bypass, but I don't want to put too much faith in an inconsistent offense, even if the pitching it will face is suspect. However, Isaac Paredes has hit safely in seven of his last nine games, making him a solid bet for this contest.
Leg #3: Cristian Javier Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-113)
The Angels have averaged right around eight strikeouts per game over the last week (five games), with just two starters recording over 4.5 strikeouts (and one did so in a complete game). Javier has recorded over 4.5 strikeouts once this season (against the Angels).
That one game lets us know it’s possible, but the rest of the season tells us it's not probable.
Leg #4: Mike Trout to Record a Hit (-175)
Mike Trout is not a perennial MVP candidate anymore, but he is still solid at the plate and has hit safely in four of his last five games. Against Houston's pitching, he's a good bet to make it five out of six.
Parlay Odds: +416 - A $100 wager will result in a $516 payday; your stake plus $416 in winnings.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Tampa Bay Rays
It's a tough pitching matchup, but the Rays are the hottest-hitting team in baseball right now - .304 average over the last week. They'll generate enough offense against the Blue Jays to win by two runs or more.
Leg #2: Yandy Diaz 2+ Hits + Runs + RBIs (-145)
Yandy Diaz has hit safely in his last eight games and recorded a combined two or more hits + runs + RBIs in six of those games. If anyone can get this done against a solid pitcher like Jose Soriano, it's Diaz.
Leg #3: Nick Martinez Over 3.5 Strikeouts (+100)
I'm a little concerned that Nick Martinez did not record a strikeout in his start versus Toronto on July 20th. But since then, he has recorded over 3.5 strikeouts in three out of four games.
Starting pitchers have recorded at least four strikeouts against the Blue Jays in Toronto's last four games. It's a little risky, but the +100 odds make it a solid value play.
Parlay Odds: +473 - A $100 wager will result in a $573 payday; your stake plus $463 in winnings.
