MLB World Series Player Prop Bets Picks & Predictions: Game 1 (Phillies/Astros)

After what feels like a whole off-season worth of waiting, we finally reached Game One of the 2022 World Series. The juggernaut Astros take on the Cinderella Phillies with both teams throwing perennial CY Young Candidates in Game One. Justin Verlander takes the mound for Houston, and Aaron Nola gets the ball for the Phillies.

Kyle Schwarber o0.5 TB (-150)

Justin Verlander has remained dominant this late into his career by locating his fastball up in the zone exceptionally well. This allows him to get a significant amount of swing-and-miss. Among Phillies hitters, Schwarber has the highest xwOBA on pitches in the upper third of the zone. To an extent, I also like Schwarber to homer, but this is a safer bet.

Aaron Nola o16.5 Outs (-135)

Although the bullpens are fully rested, and everyone is available, the Phillies would prefer Nola to go as deep into this one as possible. The last time Nola faced Houston in his last regular season start, he went 6.2 innings, and I think he is talented enough to keep that going.

Chas McCormick o0.5 HR (+900)

McCormick has been one of the bigger surprises of the postseason thus far, and he was a huge part of why Houston took down the Yankees in the ALCS. Nola likes to attack right-handed hitters with pitches away, and McCormick is one of the better hitters in baseball in going the other way. He has a 220 wOBA going to the opposite field and HR/FB% up near 20%. This is a fantastic matchup for McCormick.
