Monaco Grand Prix 2022: Max Verstappen Betting Odds, Preview & Prediction

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen enters the Monaco Grand Prix leading the way in Formula One’s driver standings. He owns four wins and one pole in six races. However, disastrous results in Bahrain and Australia mean that Verstappen’s four wins are also the only four races he has finished.

Verstappen won the Monaco Grand Prix last year, and he’ll look to become the fourth driver to win consecutively at Monaco since Aryton Senna won from 1989 to 1993.

Max Verstappen Track History

The 24-year-old Dutchman has raced on the streets of Monaco six times. All of those attempts came on its most recent 3.3-kilometer configuration. He was forced to retire from his first two attempts in 2015 and 2016, but he then finished fifth, ninth, and fourth before winning in 2021.

Verstappen recorded the fastest lap here in 2018, the year he finished ninth, but he is yet to start from the pole. Notably, Verstappen finished worse than his then-teammate Daniel Riccardio in both 2017 and 2018. He has the talent and the car to win in Monaco, but he isn’t the shoo-in he is in Austria.

Max Verstappen Recent Form

Verstappen has been a menace on the track this season. However, he hasn’t been unbeatable. Charles Leclerc bested Verstappen twice, and he would’ve had him last weekend in Barcelona but for a mechanical failure.

Verstappen has been better than Leclerc on street courses this year. The Dutchman won both Jeddah and Miami, although Leclerc took Australia. However, Verstappen fared worse than Leclerc—and Leclerc’s teammate, Carlos Sainz—in the third sector at Barcelona. That part of the course mirrors Monaco’s slow, sharp corners, and Verstappen’s best qualifying time in that part of the track trailed Leclerc by 0.08 seconds and Sainz by 0.02.

Max Verstappen Monaco GP Prediction

Verstappen Podium: -270 (1.35u) via FanDuel Sportsbook
I am betting on Charles Leclerc to win Sunday’s Grand Prix, but Verstappen should still finish respectably—or win if Leclerc crashes out again. The odds for this line aren’t friendly, but they’re better than the -300 you’ll find at DraftKings. Verstappen is four-for-six on podiums this season and Red Bull Racing clearly favors him over teammate Sergio Perez, so he’ll benefit from any team orders during the race. Let’s wager enough to win back a half-unit return.
