NBA Best Bets

San Antonio Spurs @ Philadelphia 76ers

Joel Embiid has earned at least 35 points in six of his last 10 games. Now, he's facing a Spurs defense that ranks 28th in points allowed to centers. Embiid is currently averaging 35 points per game but has an exciting matchup against the eight-win Spurs.

Meanwhile, hopefully, it's Tyrese Maxey dishing out the assists to Embiid. Maxey has nailed at least seven assists in seven of his last 10 games. He's also taking on a Spurs defense that is horrible at limiting point guards from getting assists. The Spurs rank 25th in assists allowed to point guards.

Lastly, I'm on Jeremy Sochan to earn at least six rebounds. Sochan has added at least six rebounds in 60% of his last 20 games. Sochan is coming off a massive game with 23 points, three assists and four rebounds. But he's rarely looking to score like that. He's a player who typically fills a box score in the rebounds category and scores about 13 points per game. Look for him to get back to cleaning the glass against the 76ers.

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Arizona Coyotes

The Penguins are coming off a tough loss by giving up a two-goal lead in the third and losing to Vegas 3-2. They're getting high productivity from their goaltending, allowing 2.67 goals per game. The usual star forwards are also playing well, but there isn't much there when you get to the deeper part of the lineup. They'll definitely try to add depth to that roster before the deadline.

The Coyotes have been shockingly good this year after being a bottom-feeder last season. They tend to be streaky and aren't trending in the right direction right now, as they are 3-5-1 over their last nine. The offense has struggled, and the absence of Nick Schmaltz isn't helping, so Arizona will hope he returns soon.

The goaltenders are the matchup to watch with Connor Ingram and Tristan Jarry. Both teams have gone over three goals just twice in their last nine games, so look for a lower-scoring game.

Pick: Under 6.5 Total Goals (-130)

College Basketball Best Bets

Lehigh @ Colgate

There is a lot of familiarity between Lehigh and Colgate this season, as the two Patriot League rivals returned the 29th and 28th-most minutes in the country from last year's squads, respectively. That may not be good news for the Mountain Hawks against the three-time defending Patriot League champion Raiders. Colgate won both regular season matchups last year against Lehigh by at least 16 points, including an 81-53 thrashing on its home floor. Last season’s Raiders squad led the nation in 3-point shooting (40.5%), and while this year's team is not as dangerous from beyond the arc (35.4% ranks 98th), perimeter defense is still not a strength of Lehigh's. The Mountain Hawks have allowed opponents to shoot 37.9% (347th) from 3-point range. This is a get-right game for Colgate in terms of 3-point shooting, and it has been much better from beyond the arc (39.1%) in league play.

Two of Lehigh's five wins this season have come against non-Division-I opponents, so perhaps Brett Reed's philosophy to play a lot of players (the Mountain Hawks rank 27th in bench minutes) at a fast pace (29th in adjusted tempo) is counter-intuitive to the team's success. Meanwhile, Colgate has won five of six and is one of the best defensive-rebounding teams in the country, allowing opponents to secure just 24.8% of their misses (24th-best in the country).

Colgate is 4-2 ATS in conference games this season and has covered 16 of 27 Patriot League games since the start of last season. While Lehigh is a solid 8-1 ATS as underdogs this season, it is just 3-3 overall in conference games, and we do not expect the Mountain Hawks to overcome the talent gap in this matchup.

Pick: Colgate -12.5 (-110)
