NBA All-Star Weekend: 3-Point Contest Betting Preview (2022)

With two-time champion and current leader in 3-pointers made this season Steph Curry choosing to sit this year’s edition out, the field is wide open in the All-Star Weekend 3-Point Contest. And while the Dunk Contest tends to get more of the attention, the 3-point contest is a more objective event and provides bigger edges for those willing to dig deep enough.

Let’s take a deeper look at the field this year and identify where the edge is.

Luke Kennard | +450 at DK Sportsbook
The Clippers guard has been largely carrying the scoring load for the Clippers this season without Paul George in Kawahi Leonard in the lineup and is quietly turning into one of the league’s best shooters from deep. The 4th year player out of Duke is currently leading the league in 3PT% for shooters with more than 200 attempts a 44.8%.

Heading into the break, Kennard is coming off two of his best shooting performances of the season, going 3 of 4 vs. the Suns on Tuesday and a staggering 8 of 11 on Thursday vs. the Rockets. I like for that momentum to carry over into this one as Kennard puts the league on notice of his ability.

Fred VanVleet | +500 at DK Sportsbook
Coming into the break with a 3PT% of 40.1%, VanVleeet has been asked to do a little bit of everything for the Raptors this season. His 867 FG attempts are amongst the highest in the league, as are his 501 3PT attempts heading into the break.

He comes into this weekend as a first-time All-Star, and rightfully so, and his propensity to fire on threes at will, I think, should help him in a game like this. In his last five games coming into the break, VanVleet has shot at least 43% in all five, with no less than three 3PTs made per game.
