NBA First Basket Scorers & Picks: Saturday (10/24)

The NBA season is finally underway. We've got eight games to consider as we predict who will score the first basket in some of them. Below are my NBA first basket scorers for the day.

    Milwaukee Bucks vs. Philadelphia 76ers

    The 76ers seem to be the favorites to win the opening tip-off, with four Philadelphia players among the top four favorites to score first. But since the 76ers are 1-1 on opening tip-offs and the Bucks are too, I think Milwaukee offers value.

    And Tyler Herro has been an effective scorer for the Bucks thus far, averaging a team-high 28 points per game. I think he gets Milwaukee on the board first.

    Pick: Tyler Herro (+800)

    New Orleans Pelicans vs. Denver Nuggets

    Neither the Pelicans nor the Nuggets have won an opening tip-off yet. I expect New Orleans to get this one, though, even though three Nuggets are favorited to score first.

    Dejounte Murray provides solid value. He's averaging 19.5 points per game and takes the most shots on the team at 16.5 per contest. Murray shoots more than anyone on either team and isn't even among the top six favorites to score first. You have to love the value he provides.

    Pick: Dejounte Murray (+1000)

    Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns

    Neither team has won a tip-off yet, but I believe the Suns will take this one. It's rare for me to do this, but I'm picking the favorite to score first.

    Devin Booker is clearly the focal point of the Suns' offense. Everything goes through him. And a lot of the other players you could bet on don't have much longer odds than Booker. So I'm not going to overcomplicate things on this one.

    Pick: Devin Booker (+550)
