Friday’s Best NBA Picks
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Memphis Grizzlies vs. Denver Nuggets (-7) | O/U 244 (-110/-110)
The Western Conference playoff race will go down to the last day, which is great for the NBA. It is exciting to see the 3-8 seeds are only separated by one game.
The Grizzlies have found themselves in a playoff spot, but they suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Timberwolves and remain in the Play-In Tournament. They decided to make a coaching change late in the season, which could make sense because they were near the top of the West at one point. However, it's had mixed results, and they have lost four of the last six.
Speaking of teams making changes, the Nuggets likely had the most polarizing move when they fired Michael Malone just a couple of years removed from a championship. They finally did break out of their slump and snapped a four-game losing streak against the Kings.
The status of Jamal Murray is becoming a concern as we get closer to the playoffs. He's already missed six games and is doubtful for tonight's matchup. Nikola Jokic is their staple, and he can put up a triple-double like it's nothing, but he still needs guys like Murray to be effective, and we're seeing the strength of the backcourt regress with him.
Both teams lack offense, and Memphis’ fast pace should move this game to the Over.
Pick: Over 224 Total Points (-110)
Brooklyn Nets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves (-21) | O/U 244 (-110/-110)
You must always be careful of the teams that get hot at the right time. That is certainly the Timberwolves, as they are ending the season playing their best basketball. They are coming in 15-4 in their last 19 and, as a unit, are playing better on both sides of the ball.
We saw how amazing Anthony Edwards was during Minnesota's run in the playoffs last year, and he is carrying this team right now. He's led the points in 11 of the last 15 and is coming off a 44-point performance against the Grizzlies.
The Nets had another disappointing season, and it will be interesting to see what they do in the offseason. They have Cam Thomas, Cameron Johnson, and Nic Clayton, and we'll see if they plan to build around them or send some of these pieces away to build for the future.
The Brooklyn lineup will be missing Johnson, D'Angelo Russell, and Da'Ron Sharpe, but even with those players, this number is so high. With almost this same lineup, the Nets only lost by 15, and with the T-Wolves playing the night before, this spread is too high.
