Portland Trail Blazers (-260) at Washington Wizards (+215) | O/U 232.5 (-106/-114)
The Trail Blazers (23-24) and Wizards (10-34) meet at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. at 7:00 p.m. ET.
Portland suffered a 102-94 loss on Monday night in Boston, holding on for a cover as an 8.5-point underdog as the under (223.5) cashed. The Trail Blazers were playing without Deni Avdija, the team’s leading scorer with 26 points per game (PPG). He’s also averaging 7.1 rebounds (RPG) and 6.9 assists (APG) per game.
It’s uncertain if Avdija will be able to play against the Wizards, who drafted him No. 9 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. Avdija spent his first four NBA seasons with the Wizards, andwherehe averaged 14.7 PPG and 7.2 RPG in 75 games with Washington before he was traded to Portland for Malcolm Brogdon, Bub Carrington and a handful of draft picks. Needless to say, it has worked out much better for the Trail Blazers.
The Trail Blazers are 4-2 straight up (SU) and 5-1 against the spread (ATS) in the past six games, while the under has cashed in the past two outings, in three of the past four games and in15 of the previous 20 contests.
Washington suffered a 119-115 loss at Charlotte on Saturday in a game that was rescheduled to a matinee game due to a weekend ice storm in the Mid-Atlantic. The Wizards were able to cover as 11.5-point underdogs, and they’re 3-1 ATS in the past four games, with the over (232.5) cashing. However, the under is 2-1 in the past three games and 10-5 in the previous 15 outings.
We’ll lean toward the Wizards catching the points at home, as the Blazers are just 3-4 ATS in seven games when playing on no rest. Based on the trends, let’s go low on the total.
Picks: Wizards +7 (-110) & Under 232.5 Points (-114)
Brooklyn Nets (+275) at Phoenix Suns (-340) | O/U 211.5 (-110/-110)
The Nets (12-32) and the Suns (27-19) square off at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix at 9:00 p.m. ET.
Phoenix has dominated this series in recent seasons, winning seven of the previous nine meetings, while holding a slight 5-4 ATS edge. In Brooklyn on January 19th, the Suns posted a 126-117 victory, but the Nets held on for the cover as 9.5-point home underdogs as the over (214.5) cashed. Dillon Brooks went for 27 points, while Devin Booker dropped 24 points for Phoenix. Michael Porter Jr. led the way for Brooklyn with 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Phoenix has dropped the past two outings, while also failing to cover. It is 1-3 ATS in the past four games. The under is 4-2 across the past six games and 9-3 in the past 12 outings.
For Brooklyn, it was annihilated against the L.A. Clippers last time out, falling 126-89 as a 10.5-point underdog as the over (211.5) cashed. The Nets have dropped five in a row and 10 of the past 11 games, while going just 3-5 ATS in the previous eight games. The over has hit in four of the past five outings.
We’ll back the Suns laying the big number, and let’s go over on the total, as Phoenix should be able to score at will against the Nets’ leaky defense.
Picks: Suns -8.5 (-110) & Over 211.5 Points (-110)
