Memphis Grizzlies (+198) at San Antonio Spurs (-240) | O/U 232.5 (-110/-110)
The Grizzlies (4-10) meet the Spurs (9-4) at 8:00 p.m. ET in the first game of the NBC/Peacock doubleheader. These teams met four times last season, with Memphis winning three of the outings, while also going 3-1 against the spread (ATS). The over hit in three of the meetings, too.
Looking at the injury report, Ja Morant (calf) is out with a strained right calf, so that would normally make us immediately jump on the Spurs. However, Victor Wembanyama (calf) is out for the Spurs due to a strained left calf. The TV executives must absolutely love the two biggest stars being sidelined, as all interest in this game, outside of betting and fantasy, is literally out the window.
Not only are the Grizz 4-10 straight up (SU), but they’re also 4-10 ATS, while going 1-5 on the road. The under has cashed in nine out of 14 games to date. For the Spurs, they’re 6-2 at home, while going a more respectable 6-6-1 ATS on the season.
Memphis has dropped four in a row, but it did cover as 10.5-point underdogs in a 108-100 loss in Cleveland on Saturday as the under (241.5) cashed. After starting 2-1 ATS, the Grizzlies are 2-9 ATS in the past 11 outings, with the under going 4-1 in the past five and 8-2 in the past 10 games. The under is our best bet, especially with the two big stars sidelined.
As far as the side, it’s a lot more different. San Antonio topped Sacramento 123-110 on Sunday, snapping a 0-4 ATS slide. We’ll suggest playing the Spurs, laying the six, but go lightly on that, and more heavily on the total.
Picks: Spurs -6 (-110) & Under 232.5 Points (-110)
Utah Jazz (+440) at Los Angeles Lakers (-590) | O/U 237.5 (-110/-110)
The Jazz (5-8) and Lakers (10-4) meet at Crypto.com Arena. The big news is that LeBron James might make his season debut. He is back from the NBA G League, where he was rehabbing and getting into game shape. He has missed the first 14 games due to sciatica.
Utah has covered eight out of 13 games to date, but they’re just 1-5 SU in the first six games on the road. Los Angeles is 10-4 SU, while also going 10-4 ATS. It’s unlikely James’ folding into the mix will disrupt any chemistry, and it should make the Lakers even stronger. They’ve looked good so far. Utah, not so much.
There isn’t a strong feeling on the side, however, and laying 12.5 points for L.A. is quite ambitious when we don’t know how rusty James will be, or if he’ll even play. And, Utah has been good against the number. The best play in this one is going over on the total.
Picks: Over 237.5 Points (-110)
Phoenix Suns (+114) at Portland Trail Blazers (-134) | O/U 237.5 (-110/-110)
The Suns (8-6) and the Trail Blazers (6-7) meet at 11:00 p.m. ET on Moda Center in the second end of the NBC/Peacock doubleheader.
Phoenix has posted an 8-5-1 ATS mark in 14 games this season, while Portland is just 6-6-1 ATS in 13 outings. The Suns have had trouble winning on the road, though, going just 2-4 SU, while the Blazers are 3-2 in the Rose City so far.
Phoenix was humming right along with five straight victories before getting tripped up 124-122 by the visiting Atlanta Hawks, snapping a five-game cover streak, too. The under is 5-2 across the past seven outings for the Suns.
For Portland, it was dropped 138-133 in overtime in Dallas on Sunday, failing as a 4-point favorite, and it is now 1-4 SU in the past five outings, while going 0-4-1 ATS in the span. The over has cashed in three in a row, and six of the past seven outings.
In this series, Portland has covered five in a row, and it is 7-3 ATS in the past 10 meetings since November 4th, 2022. There isn’t a strong feel for the total in this late-night affair, but roll with the Trail Blazers based on their dominance in the series recently, while also taking into consideration the struggles of the Suns.
Picks: Trail Blazers -2 (-112)
